I am having trouble with Plex sorting Season 3 of Beauty and the Beast (from around 1987) in the order they are named. The problem is with the episode named In the Forests of the Night. In the aired order at the tvdb it is shown as episode 10. It did not air in the US, but did in Canada (as I understand). The episode SHOULD BE 8 if you are following the story line. If you change to the tvdb DVD order, it is episode 7 which is still out of order. The tvdb Absolute Order does not order seasons 2 or 3. I have renamed the file as Beauty and the Beast - S03E08 - In the Forests of the Night but it still puts it as episode 10. How can I force plex to order this season according to filename?
In addition to that there are no episode external ids at tmdb linking those episodes to the tvdb so using the plex non default episode ordering may not work at all.
I may have some time later today to add these link at tmdb which should help with using the dvd order but I suspect it won’t help with trying to make the episode appear with metadata as 3x8.
FYI… external ids added at tmdb to both imdb and tvdb for all episode.
BTW… if you look here Beauty and the Beast - Unknown - Season 3 - TheTVDB.com at the dvd order you will see S03E01 is listed twice which could be why you are referring to S03E08 and its listed as S03E07. This series is locked at tvdb so someone (not me) will need to create a forum report at tvdb to have this fixed.
In the mean time, I’d recommend waiting 48/72 hours for my edits at tmdb to make their way into the plex metadata backend and then I’d suggest renaming your S03E01-E02 to S03E01 and adjust the episode number for the rest of your media files. Then plex dance the show and (fingers crossed) at that point it should pickup the correct metadata for each episode.
Good luck. BTW… assuming you are using the tvdb dvd ordering then you also need to make sure you have set that for the show in plex. It’s under the advanced tab for the show …
