I’m not sure if this is in the right forum, if not, I would hope that moderator puts it in its proper place.
Anyways, here’s the issue that I am having:
Almost every season (there are some exceptions) of any show that I have after season 1 doesn’t display the name of the show. For example, I have all 9 seasons Dragon Ball Z, that’s 291 episodes in all.
- Season 1 = 39 episodes, the last show of this season is properly named “Friends or Foes?”
- Season 2 = 35 episodes, the first episode of this season is simply named episode 40 & not “Held Captive” like it should be
This issue is the same for any other show that I currently have more than 1 season of such as:
- Batman The Animated Series
- Batman Beyond (properly named halfway through season 2, season 3 = nothing)
- The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
- Justice League
- Justice League Unlimited
- Superman The Animated Series (properly named halfway through season 2, season 3 = nothing)
- X-Men The Animated Series (properly named halfway through season 2, seasons 3-5 = nothing)
- Young Justice
I’m not sure how I can fix this, if I didn’t have it properly set then I wouldn’t get any information whatsoever on any show or season correct?
This sounds like you have MP4 files with embedded metadata causing your issue because PLEX will not label the episode as EP.40.(maybe with the anime agent… it might… maybe…)
That or you DO have the first episode of season 02 labeled something-somthing ep. 40.
If the latter is true then you will have to rename it s02e01 even though it is the fortieth episode in the series.

This is not always true. If Plex does finds the series then god knows what it will try to scrape if the contents are not named correctly and/or garbage metadata is found.

Well, I checked & as far as the DBZ episodes are concerned they aren’t mp4, they’re mkv files. I have it labeled as such “40. Held Captive” but when I went in & renamed that file as “s02e01 - Held Captive” or “Dragon Ball Z (1989) - s02e01 - Held Captive” it then updated & changed the name to just “episode 1”… it’s so weird to me because in the season 1 folder the setup I have is the same for all 39 episodes as is it’s labeled like “1. The New Threat 2. Reunions” so on & so forth for the rest of the numbers & they are labeled just fine on Plex, it’s just all the other seasons that are doing this
That explains the episode 40 listed for season 02.
Did you perform The Plex Dance ™ ? ← Very important step!
Also, be sure you label the seasons 01, 02, 03, 04, etc. Don’t forgot the leading ZERO.
Then consider yourself lucky that worked. This is not the official way and you will be hard press getting anyone to help you pass a certain point. Most people will ask you change all names to conform to the Plex standard way.

Plex dance fixed the issue. I didn’t even consider doing that again only because the issue I was having was also happening on Justice League & Justice League Unlimited. I was able to fix JL & JLU once I added the JLU files to the JL folder & renamed the JLU seasons as seasons 3-5 & then I went in & renamed the files for said seasons. Once I did that, I just updated the library files within Plex & the server automatically switched everything to the correct format… which is why I never even considered doing the Plex dance for DBZ, but as I said, it worked & fixed it as season 2 is now proper, only seasons 3-9 left. Now that I know what’s causing it, I can go about correcting it for DBZ & all the other shows I’m having issues with, & take my time. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!
Also, you wouldn’t happen to have Young Justice season 2? If so, how do you have that sorted in your files, I’ve got everything set up correct for that one too, but no matter what I do, plex dance & all, it stays reading “episode 1, 2, 3”… season 1 is perfect, but season 2 not so much, I’ve read that others are having this issue with the same season too… anyways the file names are setup like so: Young Justice - s02e01 - Happy New Year
it’s the same for the remaining 19 episodes, this show is the only one that won’t convert, all the others that I’ve already changed have worked perfectly
I want to blame it on season 2 being an mp4 as season 1 is m4v, but I have Star Trek Discovery & Batman Beyond as well, & they downloaded as mp4 & they come out just fine with the correct names in plex with the same exact sorting (i.e. Star Trek Discovery s01e01 title or Batman Beyond s02e01 title), I’m beginning to think that season 2 of young justice is just bugged

- Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
- Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
- Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
- Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
Afterwards, Refresh Metadata of the affected series.
that LMA agent has always been at the bottom since I started using Plex in every category, that was one of the first things I did when I started using this platform… I don’t believe that to be the issue with season 2 of Young Justice
Are you using any custom scanners or metadata agents?
Which metadata agent is set in the properties of your library as ‘default’?
Have you tried to erase the local metadata caches?

I’ve got everything set like yours & I’m still having the issue… it’s perplexing
I have no idea what to look for with that zip file so I just uploaded it here because when I extracted the file I got a bunch of different items, & i have no clue as to what they do
I believe I fixed the problem, I changed the option from DVD order to airing order & it started naming the files correctly, thanks for your help… I just wish that it would name the files correctly & play them in DVD order (most because Batman the Animated series airing order is all out of wack & their DVD order is the true way to watch the show), but it is what it is, thanks for all your help everyone!

So, that’s why Plex played the file The Cat & Claw pt. 1, despite Plex having it listed & showing as Leathered Wings… and it’s all because TVDB doesn’t have the official DVD order… wish I would’ve known this earlier LoL
That’s odd. I know it used to have a DVD order for Batman:The Animated Series. It was a hot topic for a while. I’m lazy and just used the aired order. It mainly effects the first season, when they were running the show on Sunday nights separately from the show on weekdays.
I hated when they moved Justice League Unlimited into the Justice League list, too.
I don’t mind then being under one title; but I had just added the shows right before they changed them- which meant I had to re-name them.
