Absolutely ridiculous! Media stops whenever it feels like

Server Version#: Version 1.22.1.4275
Player Version#: whatever firecube gen 1 is on latest.
Ok, the everyday random stop and go to the plex splash screen for no apparent reason is bad enough, but this has gotten ridiculous (just updated jellyfin, so time to seriously get back to testing that)
Last night during an episode of AEW, with about 5-10 minutes left, it just stopped as it does for the hell of it. BUT this time when it started back to plex, not only was there no resume available, plex decided to DELETE IT. Now I know it is a smart app and all, and I wasn’t going to keep it, but it had conveniently placed it in my recycle bin.
Ok, that was last nights bullshit, now let me explain what you are looking at. With about 10 minutes left of a movie (everyday mp4, nothing exciting) it sopped and hit the plex splash screen again. Well, what you are looking at in the picture is the left you can see Tautulli counting up since it is STILL PLAYING on the firecube, if you cant read it, and clearly to the right is my TV that shows NOTHING IS PLAYING. The sheer amount of bugs is absolutely astounding. I pulled the logs right after it restarted when I was staring at these two screens just swearing.

I would look somewhere else instead of blaming the issue on Plex. I have been using Plex for years and never had issues with the exceptions of a few GUI bugs. To me it sounds more like you have something running in the background that is possibly locking/deleting files which in turn is causing Plex to crash such as backup software or anti-virus. Plex normally does not delete files with the exception of recorded shows after a certain amount of time if you have that setup.

Ok, aside from the usual person blaming my setup (and then in a bit other people will be saying they are having the same issue such as the duplicate movie issue) is there any ideas? I would assume if Plex worked nearly flawless as you say, this forum would not be as LITTERED with issues at all times. Oh, nothing on my plex server has changed. Still windows defender only, and Aoemi backing up in the middle of the night. Last night it happened twice during a 90 minute movie for no apparent reason. And Plex still thought it was running, so resuming would start from scratch at first, but a quick start and stop would then allow a resume. So no, I am not going with the normal one person saying “plex works perfectly fine” since if it wasn’t plex having problems, I wouldn’t be proving there are problems and ask for help. Glad it all works for you @Alucard1 but obviously it is causing major issues for me. I grabbed my logs after the second crash if you would like to see them. Since plex thinks the movie is running, I couldn’t see anything in the log that even denotes plex crashed on the firecube. I will try to get a log from the firecube itself and see if it says anything sine I surely think it is more the app on the firecube as opposed to the server.

Twice more during “Benny Loves Me” at 73 minutes in, then again about 10 minutes later. Same thing, after plex starts, resume takes it to the beginning, then after a stop and then resume it goes back to where it was when plex just restarted for funsies.Plex Media Server Logs_2021-04-05_15-13-21.zip (5.2 MB)

I’ll have to try the network log again, when it restarted it turned logging off i believe? I am sure it’ll happen again next movie i watch. seems damn consistent now.

If you search for “Benny” in your Plex Media Server.log you can see…

around 13:48 you start playing it

You can see 3 or 4 of the above client disconnects in a row leading up to the playback actually stopping - these are also happening at other times but as you’re not also flagging those as dropouts I would guess that plex is able to recovery in those instances.

You need to work out why your FireCube is having a periodic grouping of dropouts within the space of a few mins… Could be bad wifi, could be overheating and, could be other background apps running on it consuming all the resource etc.

I breezed through the log so quickly out of frustration I did not notice those other disconnects, so thank you for pointing that out. I would doubt it is wifi since it is different times of day and the physical cube is actually recently closer to the router. As far as temp of the firecube, all i can say is it is in a nice open space still. It hasn’t moved (the router did) I’ll have to look into an app that monitors the internal temp. Like a hwinfo for it, just not familiar if it exists. I checked for apps running and there isn’t anything out of the ordinary, but i’ll check that when i play a movie tonight (and enable network logging again) to gather that log and see if something else happens to launch when i open plex. Thanks for the ideas to look at. Although these issues seem very much tied to this new interface that was just offered so i know an update must’ve come down that prompted the "switch to new or be forced to change on april 22nd thing. Also, this is a first gen firecube so maybe it is overheating and just is, OLD.

So now after last night with a couple crashes, and I did immediately jump over and check other running apps. One strange one I did find THOP TV running, so I removed that. Dont’ recall installing it but that means nothing since I have tested quite a few tv apps since mobdro went bye bye. Anyway, with that removed, it did still drop off one time.
However, even though I know plex is part of the issue, it is what is crashing, I also know this firecube is a part of the problem as well. But what has me curious is why/what is freaking out plex, but is not stopping me from streaming Baylor beat Gonzaga throughout the whole game without issue. Whatever the problem is, be it in plex, or if it is not in Plex, only seems to effect PLEX, not Firefox, or the other thing i use that plays for hours on end, Rokr.

Any part of this log that explains why just now I was streaming USA on livenetTV and poof, plex opened. I am really starting to think that this firecube is possessed and is trying to “frame” plex as the culprit LOL

I appreciate all the details your’e giving - but if you look at al the recent threads on this forum you’ll see that everyone on every type of system is having the same Plex system crash/fallover (or whatever they are calling it). The only solution I see is for to Plex sit down in their own little office and sort out their own colossal mess. They know they have f@£*ed the whole thing. Us end users are just going round in circles trying to explain what we are experiencing. I’d suggest, that like me, you avoid the frustration of trying to explain to them your issue and wait (and hope and pray) they work their own s£$*t out soon.

If everyone takes your advice and doesn’t report it, nothing will get done for sure. But at least I know that this is everyone’s issue, since as you see by the first a$$clown who responded to me, Plex works perfectly all the time and I should look elsewhere for the problem.

I also didn’t run across any other posts about plex deleting files, so I think the more logging for them to read from more different setups would be better in the offchance they actually do decide to try and fix it.
