My parents have an older LCD TV that I guess doesn’t support AC3 audio. Even though I disabled audio pass-through, they are still not getting any audio unless the movie or TV show is AAC. Is there not a way that I can force it to trigger my Plex server into transcoding the audio?
I assume that this TV doesn’t have a real Plex client, but just a generic DLNA player.
With DLNA clients, you can only play the file as-is. If the TV doesn’t have an AC-3 decoder, then you’ll have no sound. Transcoding will only work with DLNA if there is a fitting hardware profile, which describes in detail which file formats and which codecs this device supports.
Developing such a profile is very challenging and the results still won’t work as well as a real Plex client.
Therefore your best bet is to get a FireTV or a nVidia Shield and plug it into the TV.
Sorry I forgot to include the device information. It is an a95x Max Android box and when it was connected to my 65 inch Samsung curved TV there was never an issue with audio in AC3 but their bedroom TV is a 27 inch Samsung

Put plex back in mobile mode on the android box.
Then go to settings-player-ac3 eac3 and uncheck them.
Go back to TV mode and try same files
Even though the audio tracks are in AC3?
Also, try changing the passthru audio source to HDMI or Optical in accordance with your setup. I’ve found this to be necessary for some older TVs used by family/friends.
[N3XTG3N-VOD] That worked!
All other solutions on here didn’t work
Glad to help mate
