Problem is that Plex TV client (connected wired ethernet) will drop out frequently and can’t connect to server, then other times it might be ok for a while.
Windows 10 Pro (PMS) to LG TV Client.
Always works on my phone with the mobile app, no issues. Generally no issues with transcoding when it is working on the TV.
Set to always allow insecure connections in the settings on the TV.
Remote access out side my local area network also works error free.
Have noticed a few messages in the logs, one of which is:
[CERT] TLS connection from [::ffff:192.168.1.78]:54677 came in with unrecognized plex.direct SNI name ‘192-168-1-78.d4266f7be86743e582b24611272511ef.plex.direct’; using installed plex.direct cert
Any assistance gratefully received.
Sean.
Could be a bad cable? Is your ethernet coming in via. a powerline and/or switch(s)?
Have you tried plugging a laptop, or something, in the same ethernet to see if you get any performance drops?
Thanks, actually didn’t consider that possibility so will test. All other streaming services off the internet are fine, uninterrupted without buffering eg Netflix. Of course, this issue is solely on the internal network.
As far as I know, cable is through a switch.
Will try a few things and post findings.
Look in the settings of the plex app on the TV.
See if there is a way to allow the client to fall back to an unencrypted connection, if the server is on the same network.
Some clients even have an additional checkbox to actually prefer an unencrypted connection in that case.
Look in the settings of your router if there are settings for “DNS rebinding protection”. If there is a way to define exceptions from that protection, put the domain name plex.direct on the list.
If you have a Pi-Hole or a similar “internet filter” in the network, look there for the same preferences.
In the Server settings, make sure that “Secure Connections” are not “required”.
Thanks for the advice and things to look at here. I have allow insecure connections set as always on the TV side. Definitely on the same network as the TV is 192.168.1.66 and my PC running PMS as .78 on the same subnet.
One thing I should mention that maybe has some bearing on this, the TV is Ethernet connected but the PMS on a Windows 10 desktop doesn’t have built in wireless, so I am only using a USB wireless adapter.
The problem is happening at the moment. I have no access to the server, but it was fine for one movie duration last night.
I tested the Ethernet cable to my laptop and pinged PMS (laptop is local to the tv so using the same cable) and no drop outs at all. Ping to the TV from PMS computer times out every so often. Traceroute seems to be a direct connection, which is no surprise.
Also reset the Plex TV app and immediately it showed server unavailable.
