We had an internet failure yesterday which obviously left us unable to access streaming services. However, I thought I would at least be able to watch shows from my PMS. However, my Roku appeared not to be able to connect to it without internet access. Is there any way around this? Not that it’s a common occurrence, but it would be nice to be prepared.
Your Roku should still have an auth token even if internet went down unless it or computer were restarted or apps signed out of.
You might read in places to enter your networks IP in the “networks allowed without auth” ( in Settings>Network of server) but I suggest only adding the IP your computer that you normally use to administrate the server in there ( a computer that hopefully no one else uses. Then if internet goes down you can access server from that computer and temporarily add the IP of the Roku to that setting.
You should not leave the IP of Roku ( or your entire network) in their all the time because when the apps access the server this way they are treated like the admin account and can access everything on server and affect the watch states of items played. if entire network then someone could get on any computer on network and be the admin.
Thanks for that. I generally turn the Roku off at night, but it had been on earlier and I didn’t think I’d turned it off again.
Given how rare an internet outage has been for us, I guess I’ll just live with it if it happens again.
