Using PMS without internet

Hi, here is my situation:

When I’m in camping I take my cell phone (android) as PMS and it share wifi with my roku (it use plex app). The problem is if I have no internet access, the plex app on roku doesn’t want to connect to my PMS because no internet are available, how can I bypass this?

On the Roku app, see if there is a setting where you can manually input the IP address of the Plex server.

If your cell phone is the ‘wifi hotspot’, the roku will find the PMS server if it’s on the same SSID the phone is providing (the wifi network name). The trick is the DHCP. The Roku firmware no longer lets us set the IP (a ‘feature’ ha). I have an iPhone and it takes care of that for me as part of being the hotspot.

I have seen the same problem. Don’t use your plex account to sign in on the roku (or any client), that way it only looks for local PMS servers and not an internet one. Exact same thing happens when I loose internet connection at home, no plex client (iOS / Roku / Android) will connect to the server, I have to logout / select a don’t sign in option on all the clients, then plex will look for a local server rather then trying to find it through your online PMS account.

The only functionality you will ever lose by not signing in are the Plex Pass features (sync, etc)

I would argue that as being at least partially false…

I have a Samsung Smart TV with the Plex app on it. I am not able to sign in to Plex, but I can manually set the IP to where PMS is. With this, I have managed to get a few Pass features to work. I can say for certain that the trailers before movies feature does work. As for others, I cannot say for certain. But that doesn’t mean you are entirely wrong. Just maybe partially.
