I’ve noticed the actor database doesn’t work with movies I’ve added most recently. For example, if I go to Deer Hunter (a movie I got a few weeks ago) and click on Robert De Niro, Plex shows me just one movie: Deer Hunter. But then if I go to the movie The Score and again click on Robert De Niro, I get like 20 movies, from Godfather to Meet the Parents.
I tried to solve this like a year ago and found some thread that mentioned how to “reset” the database or have it rebuild or something. That didn’t work - tried it many times. (Although I can’t remember how to get there and can’t find that thread.) But I don’t have high hopes for that solution since it didn’t work last year.
It just occurred to me (which is why I’m posting again) that maybe the way I back up/restore Plex messes its actor database up somehow? I literally back up the Plex folder (appdata\local\plex media server) - all 50 quadrillion files/folders there. Whenever I do a clean install of Windows (every 5 years or so) and reinstall Plex, I restore everything that way. I must do this because I’ve spent more hours than I can count building the library. (For example, a few hundred 3D movies with movie cover art I literally did myself since it’s so hard to find 3D-specific movie posters; putting in many custom names for movies like “James Bond 18” or “Avengers 19” etc. Hours and hours and hours. For me to let Plex rebuild my library itself every time I reinstall my system would really suck.
Maybe that’s not the cause, maybe it is, but just thought I’d mention that in case it might be a cause. (Note that even if it’s a cause, this problem still shouldn’t happen… it’s still definitely a bug in Plex.)
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
