Choose Source for Actors... What?

Server Version#: 1.25.4.5487
Player Version#: 4.74.1

For the past week or so, all movies that the actor has played in are not showing under one actor profile. WTF! If I type in Nicolas Cage for example it says my server name +1 and when I hit the enter key it asks me to choose source (see screenshot). WTF!?!? I only have one movie database.

You might need to refresh the metadata of that library for Plex to pick up those are the same person references.

Plex has fixed an issue that could cause same-named persons to get mixed up some months ago. The new approach will assign actors/directors a unique ID. Existing metadata will usually be adjusted as part of a scheduled maintenance task (unless this is disabled on your server). As mentioned above, refreshing the library metadata will do the same for you.

Edit:
So what you see in your screenshot is what Plex perceives to be two separate Nick Cages, hence the two results for the same library.

This sounds like the problem I was having, as discussed in this thread:

Unfortunately, it seems that refreshing your metadata for your entire movies library is the only solution for getting all the actors/movies into one grouping again - just be prepared for a lot of your movie posters and a few other things to get screwed up in the process.

Pretty sure @troy.brisbin is talking about the new search method introduced in Plex Web verion 4.74.1.

The new search does not have any way (that I’ve found) to actually see all the results on one page like the old method. Generally speaking, if you have multiple libraries, there a whole lot more clicking and choosing going on, with limited results in the scrolling dropdown.

In this case the culprit seems to be the “duplicate” actors – one version of Nick Cage with the new GUID, one without it.

I’m ok with the extra clicks… just need some multi-edition handling to merge my “movie editions” library into my main library and I’m ok with the “+1 more libraries” button

That’s a dystopian horror scenario that we just don’t need in 2022.

I went in and optimized the database which merged the two Nick Cages averting the dystopian horror scenario.

With that being said, I think this is a bug in the system.

Then again I have 5K movies in my database, is it getting to large for Plex to handle?

No, that’s not a problem (there’s a thread with users comparing library sizes in #general:lounge … there’s significantly bigger ones)
