I just installed the 1.25.0.5246 beta version on my ubuntu server and noticed whenever a new movie gets added, the actors are registered as a duplicate. For example, I added the movie Shang-Chi starring Ben Kingsley. When I click on his actor icon only Shang-Chi is listed as a movie with him, which is not true. Interestingly enough when I click on Ben Kingsley under Shutter Island, all my movies starring him are listed except Shang-Chi but after refreshing the metadata on Shutter Island and clicking again on Ben Kingsley he is now listed with Shang-Chi but not anymore with other movies starring him. It is reproducible with any other actor.
Did I just missed something and it’s intended and I have to refresh the metadata of all my movies or is it a bug?
This is a side effect of a recent server side change which fixed an issue with different cast who have the same name (Metadata) Prevent actors with the same names overwriting each others thumbnails (#13084)
To fully resolve you will need to refresh the metadata for your entire movie library which will fix up all cast members and resolve the cast search functionality.
Np, pretty sure that’s your issue but report back if it does not resolve after the metadata refresh. You might also want to optimise the db afterwards for good measure.
I only noticed this after the latest upgrade (.5282), although maybe it’s been an issue for a couple of updates and I didn’t notice. Is this something that Plex should fix in an upgrade, because if I understand correctly this potentially affects everyone? I have not “upgraded” my library and don’t really want to refresh the entire library as I have a very large library, many collections and I’ve manually added/changed information, posters, etc. for a quite a number of titles.
