My Movies library has a mixture of recorded and ripped movies. I have the library configured to run ad detection on all items. (I transcode from mpeg2 .ts to h264 .mkv so I think it won’t be able to determine a recorded vs. ripped movie.)
The commercial skip process seems to be running on the same movies every night. I’m guessing since it stops at the 5am scheduled task window and I’ve got more content than can be scanned from 2-5am that lots of things aren’t getting the ad detection.
This doesn’t solve why this is happening every night for the same moves but, if you do the transcoding via a postprocessing script defined in your DVR settings, it should still be able to determine that it is a recorded movie.
My guess is that it’s using the presence of ad markers to determine if the scheduled task should run on the item. So if no ads are found, there won’t be markers, and next time it’ll run on it again. If correct, the fix would be to add another metadata item to record the last time the ad scanner was run on an item. Even better, some hash of the ad scanner configuration and version so that item(s) can be reprocessed.
