Add ability to negate filters in the web interface

First off, let me state that based on my reading of this feature request found here, which is what all similar requests get pointed to and closed, this is different request. I am not asking for the Home feature to use any different logic to decide what assets to restrict or allow.

And with the move to the new forum, I didn’t find any other request out there.

I would like the ability to negate a filter for a library in the web interface. This is most useful for those filters that can have multiple values, like the filters used for sharing.

For instance, I have two labels: “Kids” and “Teen”. My Movie library has about 1000 assets, with 400 of those labeled “Kids” and 400 labeled “Teen” (may not be mutually exclusive, which I can tell are not based on the numbers I see). I can easily get a list of the items labeled with either one of those labels, or both. However, what i cannot get easily is a list of the 200 assets that are not tagged with either label. This will help me properly tag assets without needlessly going through assets that are already properly tagged.

I’m sure this could be useful with the other fields on which assets can be filtered.

This is a great idea, even though it has nothing to do with the other request you pointed to and commented on.

Finding specific media can be problematic, and trying to drill down to specifics in the Web App or any of the clients can lead to an exercise in futility. You may know what you DON’T want, but not how to get there. Blacklists for the filterings should also be implemented.

I second this request. It would be SO helpful. I have three movies out of 1500 that have no labels, and I have no way to find out which three movies those are without checking each movie’s labels one-by-one.

Yes! This is the exact use case for which I am requesting the feature.

Three years and I’m still having the problem…although now as my library has grown, so has the problem of finding content that is not tagged for sharing to other accounts.

Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (custom filters)
