Perhaps there is already a way to do this and I just haven’t figured it out or thought it through properly.
Let me lay out a scenario:
I have a multiple movies in a holiday collection. Some movies are “holiday only” movies - meaning they are really only going to get played during the holiday, like “Frosty the Snowman”. Other movies are a not “holiday only” movies, like “Die Hard” - meaning they could be played anytime of the year, but it still qualifies as a holiday movie, so I add it to the holiday collection. I want to be able to hide the holiday only movies while not hiding the non-holiday only movies, like Die Hard. Can we get a movie by movie setting to say “Hide if in a Collection”, or “Hide if in Collection XYZ”?
This would prioritize over the “Hide Movies in a Collection” setting that already exists. This way I can clean up my list of movies and not see the holiday ones for seasons such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas unless I specifically go into those collections. Then I can still see movies that technically qualify to go into certain collections, but I still want to be able to see during any other time of the year.
I have not found a workaround to this at this time - so if anyone has, please let me know!
The property to hide the movies can also be set per collection.
So you define that the holiday collection shall hide it’s members from the regular library.
Now put those movies, which must not get hidden into a second collection and set this one to ‘don’t hide’.
If a movie is member of more than one collection with conflicting ‘show/hide’ properties, Plex will default to ‘show’.
This makes sense, but expanding on that using my original example, currently I don’t have ‘Die Hard’ in any other collections. That means that the only way you would be able to see it if I hide my Christmas Collection is to 1) Add it to a second collection solely for the purpose of not hiding it, or 2) Just not have it in a collection at all. I definitely think knowing that Plex will default to show for movies in conflicting collections will help, but I would just like to see if they can expand upon it in the future so that I am not making collections just for the sole purpose of being able to see the movie individually.
