Movie grouping for Christmas, Genre or Collection?

I am looking to group my movies together for easy view, filtering, finding etc.
i.e. “Christmas”, “James Bond”, “Marvel”, etc

Would you do this by adding a Genre of "Christmas or by adding Collection of “Christmas” ?

Thanks

both will work.
I recommend going with Collections. If you open the preplay screen of a movie in this collection, it’ll immediately show the link to the other movies in this collection on most clients.

Thanks will spend an hour or so re-doing. Cheers

OK, so I know this is kind of a dated post but I’m running into the issue now. I’ve been slowly updating my library to use collections. For the most part I hide individual movies and only show collections (Let’s use The Santa Clause 3 movie collection as an example). I just went through and added all my “Christmas” movies to a collection as I have the grand idea of running a Christmas movie marathon or something. This then hid all my individual movies that I may have interest in looking for individually (Love Actually, Edward Scissorhands) I went in and turned the display option in my Christmas collection to show individual movies. This then started overriding the hide option in other collections so that All three movies in “The Santa Clause” Collection are displayed alongside the collection poster. Is there a way to create a secondary collection that won’t override other collection settings?

Sadly Plex currently defaults to show items in case a movie is in multiple collections with conflicting settings (same e.g. if you have a collection like the Marvel Cinematic Universe which contains individual movies such as Doctor Strange or The Incredible Hulk but also movies organized by collections such as Iron Man 1-3, Captain America 1-3, Thor 1-3…).

There’s a feature request to change this behavior (however so far it appears only a small number of users is dealing with multi collection assignments with conflicting assignments and having much of an issue with the current approach):
