Hide if in another collection

Hi!

Example:
I have all of the Marvel movies in a “Marvel” collection, some are in additional collections (“Captain America”, “Spider-man”, etc.). I would like to be able to show movies in the Marvel collection only if they are not part of an additional collection. This way movies that don’t have sequels such as Black Panther will still show up in the library, but if they are in an additional collection like Captain America they will be hidden and it will only show that collection.

I would think this could be accomplished by adding an additional check box in the advanced section of a collection edit page right underneath the collections options. So if you have “Show this collection and it’s items” enabled there would be an extra check box option titled “unless the item is in an additional collection.”

But how would Plex know which collection to show it in? In your example, if a movie is in both “Marvel” and “Captain America” which collection would it appear in and which one is it hidden from.

The option would be in the settings of the collection itself. So if a movie was in both “Marvel” and “Captain America” you would enable this option from the settings page of the Marvel collection. This way it would show any movies in the main library that were ONLY in the Marvel collection, but hide any that were also in an additional collection.

That sounds confusing.

Hmmm… I don’t think so, but I’m probably not explaining it well.

Do you mean confusing to implement? or confusing for the end user?

It’s already possible to change the view setting for a collection on a collection by collection basis in the collection edit page regardless of the collection settings for the library at large, so this would just require adding an additional option to that page.

Maybe this will clarify, this is a screenshot from the collection edit screen of the Marvel collection in my Library. What I’m suggesting would essentially be an additional item in this drop down titled “Show this collection and it’s items (unless the item is in an additional collection.)”

Doesn’t seem like it would be too confusing.

If you have “Iron Man” the first one only and you’ve included it in the “Marvel” collection only and your suggested option is enabled.

So “Iron Man” will be shown as a movie and the Marvel collection will be shown?

If you then add an “Avengers” collection and include this Iron Man movie.

Now “Iron Man” will not be shown as a movie by itself, but the 2 collections will be shown?

If so, I don’t get why you would want to see it as a movie when it is only part of 1 collection but when it’s part of 2?

Are you by chance talking about this behavior?

  • you have movies in individual collections such as Iron Man, Thor, Captain America
those collections should be displayed in your library, hiding their items
  • you ave those movies together with others in a big collection such as Marvel Cinematic Universe
you want to display the collection as well as the items that are not part of another collection
