People that bought Samsung Smart TVs last year are left out of official app experience. I know I’ve expected official support when work on new Tizen app was mentioned.
Yes, Orca did great work on his app however there’s no feature parity for official Plex TV app. Older models don’t run on Tizen so it’s a whole different thing but 2015 models do run it.
I even went so far to buy a Chromecast and use it for Plex, however I doubt most people would want to invest to one more gadget for their already “Smart” TV.
So, if you own a 2015 Samsung Smart TV and would like official app support feel free to like this post, just writing +1 support doesn’t do much.
I have 3 samsung TVs that were working on plex until today. Suddenly they all cannot find the server. My Sony and Vizio and Apple TVs have no problem -what happened

I would love to see official app on my samsung 2015 smart tv tizen, thank goodness for the stand in, which gets the job done, but I can tell it’s not quite finessed in the “plex” way. One big issue for me is the mouse “pointer” feature on my samsung remote doesn’t work with most selections on the current samsung tizen app.
I had an AppleTV and sent it back because the samsung smart tv features did everything except airplay. Plex was much nicer interface on appletv, but i’d rather just do it all through my tv interface. one less source change, one less remote. I’ll live with the unofficial plex app for now, but hoping for a slick update.

Got a 2015 Tizen JS9000 in October and really would love the official app to provide a consistent experience across platforms. Orca’s app provided a good solution for older models but for newer ones (and compared to the official apps) it just doesn’t make the grade in terms of performance and features.
The biggest issue with this unofficial approach was highlighted recently when he basically threatened to stop development until people donated to him. Don’t get me wrong, he’s done a good job in his own time creating a usable solution so I understand his frustration and the need to be compensated, but for those of us who already pay a significant sum for PlexPass it is reasonable to expect an official app with feature parity as part of our subscription.
As for the argument from Plex that they don’t want to upset the existing user base the answer seems simple: Orca’s app is a good solution for old TVs so leave it there, but any of the modern Tizen based TVs deserve the optimised, official, supported app. Obvious and sensible solution as far as I can tell.

It would be great to have both apps and a choice.
