I have “A:\Media$ja\movies\Star Wars\Rogue One (2016).mp4” and Plex cannot handle it. The option to “Add To Collection” is missing and the “Tags” option is missing.
As a matter of fact, there are lots of random movies in my library where clicking on the three vertical dots yields only a handful of options while most movies in my library display about 20 options.
Can you share what you get to see in the context menu of the movies/items missing those options?
I assume the add-to and related commands are listed in the section above the visible screenshot (for the movies where it’s not missing)?
For some additional clarification:
Are you using the hosted or bundled version of Plex Web – or is this screenshot from a desktop player app? Which versions respectively are we talking about?
Also… with what version of PMS are you experiencing this?
I don’t know what the “bundled version of plex web” or “desktop player app” are. All I know is that I right-click on the server in the Windows system tray and select Open. Plex then opens in Chrome.
That looks like the context menu of a collection, not a movie. There’s no option to add a collection to another collection.
It can be confusing if you have collections with a single item. Those tend to use the title of their child/item and its poster, which can make them hard to distinguish.
Collections have a 2nd label with the amount of items. Movies have a 2nd label with the movie‘s release year.
As I already stated above. I have “A:\Media$ja\movies\Star Wars\Rogue One (2016).mp4”. If Plex decided to make it a collection instead of a movie, then that’s another problem.
This is probably because I have “don’t display movies that are part of collections enabled”. You won’t admit it but this is a significant bug. I now have to Delete all of these “1 movie” collections so that the proper movie appears. I never explicitly asked for individual movies to be part of any collections at all.
Then best disable the automatic creation of collections or at least increase the minimum size to something bigger than 1 (e.g. 2)
Given that’s the default and you say you never changed it… you might also want to double check if your library is configured to prefer local/embedded metadata. If your mp4 videos have an album tag set, this will also create collections.
