"Add to Collection" option missing

I’m trying to use the “collections” feature. The Plex support article at https://support.plex.tv/articles/201273953-collections/ notes that I can:

add individual items to a collection by selecting individual items, or a the results of a filter, then from the Add To menu select Add to Collection and choose an existing collection, or create a new one. The existing collection tag will be added to the items. If you create a new one the title you give it will be added as a Collection tag to the items.

However, I don’t have this “Add to collection” option, and can only “add to playlist”:

I was able to create a collection by manually editing the tag of a film. But I’ve been unable to figure out how to add to a collection using either the web UI or the android TV app.

I’m using a Shield Pro 2019 as my plex server and client.

What am I doing wrong?

What version of Plex Media Server do you have installed on your Shield?
Are you using accessing the web app through the Shield’s IP address (http://[Shield IP address]:32400/web) or the hosted version of Plex Web (https://app.plex.tv/desktop)?

It’s set to auto update, so it should be the latest version. The web app says it’s “Version 1.22.2.4282”

I access the web app via https://app.plex.tv/desktop/

Smart collections require PMS 1.22.3 or newer.
Maybe you can check the Play Store if there’s an update pending that got stuck.

I’m not after “smart collections”, just the “standard” collections

From what I remember, the “Add to” menu has the same prerequisite.

I think this might be the issue: What is the latest version of PMS on the Shield (not beta)?

seems the shield hasn’t gotten the latest update yet? April 22, 2021 was a long time ago though… ?

ok odd i thought that was sent to google a while ago. might have gotten held up in their approval cycle for some reason. I will let folks know find out what is going on.

collections itself isn’t a new feature but we are always tweaking things and the “add to” option is new. since you are on an older version you would need to edit the item and add the collection tag to it manually.

It appears to show the right version for me. you should be able to “push” it to your shield from the install button on web page

I wouldn’t really bother with collections if I had to edit tags manually, but this will make it a very useful feature for me!

if you click on the green install button on that page you should be able to push it to the shield

I just tried this using the Android TV app (also running on my shield) and the “add to collection” option isn’t there.

Is this planned to be added in the future?

Not that I am aware of.
