"Add to Watchlist" option is Missing for Movies on Plex Web

The “Add to Watchlist” button and menu option are missing from the Movies section of my Plex Web on desktop. The button still exists in the Mobile player, but there’s no menu option for it (I’m not sure if it ever existed).

The button and option to add still work for TV Shows, but not movies.

I’d love to figure this one out. Running Server Version 4.143.0 on Mac.

Seems to be working fine on my end.

What agent are you using for this library?
Do you experience the same if you’re using the hosted version of Plex Web (https://app.plex.tv/desktop) vs. the bundled version you’re currently using? (doesn’t seem to make a difference for me… just double-checking)

When you ask “what agent,” do you mean what app? I tried both Chrome and Safari. It’s missing on both.

When I use https://app.plex.tv/desktop it’s also missing.

No, the metadata agent that is used to fetch metadata about your movies.

Edit your library
go to the Advanced tab
look what is selected as Agent.

The Watchlist is only working when using “Plex Movie” (without the word “Legacy” appearing next to it).

No “legacy”.

It’s been working correctly for years. I’ve just noticed the absence of the option since the latest server update.

Do you have any web browser add-ons installed in both browsers?

Please post the first ~20 lines of the Plex media info XML of an affected movie.

Check that you don’t have “Include adult content” enabled for the library.

You probably don’t want this enabled in the first place, a bad filename could lead to matching with something you might not want it to be matched to…

I don’t have any browser add-ons that would be on both apps. Here’s the XML…

Check if the folder PLEX 15 8TB has indeed a space character at the beginning of its name. Avoid that trick. If you need a way to make a folder appear first, use an underscore _ .

"Include adult content” was enabled. I disabled it. Seems to have no effect.

Make sure you refresh the page in your browser.

It does indeed have the space at the beginning of the name. I’m not sure how that would affect this issue. They’ve been that way for YEARS. Changing those would also mean my Backblaze backups for 16 hard drives would be invalidated, so that’s not an option.

Restarted the Plex Server and restarted the browser. Seems fixed.

I’ve had the same issue for a month or so on both TV and movie libraries. The Add/Remove from Watchlist option and the More Ways to Watch option/functionality completely disappeared from Plex Web (both hosted and bundled) despite still working in the apps. Having just read this post I checked the library settings and “Include adult content” is indeed selected for every library. I tried disabling it and refreshing the browser and this immediately re-enabled the missing functionality.

Is this a bug or an undocumented change? I’ve seen no mention of this in the release notes and I haven’t changed that setting in the libraries. Without seeing this post it would never have occurred to me to either look at that setting or think that it might be in any way related. I am correct in thinking that option is only meant to block out a “certain type” of content and won’t cause any issues with shows that have adult content such as Game of Thrones, Spartacus etc?

The restriction of libraries with adult content was there from the very beginning of Plex’s Discover features (incl. the universal Watchlist). IIRC it was a bit buggy in said beginnings, resulting in some adult content findings its way into Discover… but that appears to be a thing of the past.

Keep in mind that Adult Content is a term defined by the metadata sources used by Plex; this is used to separate “regular” content from porn – not the occasional nudity in a tv show.
From TMDb’s content “bible”:

Adult Content

If you would like to search for adult (pornography) items, make sure to enable the “Include Adult Items in Search?” feature in your account settings.

We also recommend including adult items in the search before searching for erotic, non-pornographic content. Erotic films including pinku are sometimes incorrectly set to adult: true.
