Adding a Plex "edition" to a movie makes all extras disappear

I’ve never had success using the Plex “editions” feature. I can add an edition, and that edition will indeed show up as a separate movie, but it has the side-effect of making all extras (trailers, featurettes, etc.) invisible from both entries for the movie.

There is a long thread elsewhere on the forum about a similar problem, but that involved the use of .plexignore, and I’m not using that anywhere on my server.

My most recent example: “The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm” (1962) has two versions, a “letterbox” version and a “Smilebox” version which tries to recreate the original Cinerama curved-screen experience. I create an entry which includes only the letterbox version and all the extras from the Blu-ray, and all is fine. But as soon as I add the file

The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962) {edition-Smilebox Version}.mkv

to the folder, all extras become invisible.

Except for the “.plexignore” thing I didn’t find any other threads about extras disappearing, so maybe it’s just me, but it certainly seems like a bug in the scanner or server.

I’d appreciate any help in tracking this down. Since I can’t use the editions feature I’m just adding those alternate editions as extras of another sort (“featurette”).

Have you placed both files in their own folder?

They’re both in the same folder. Is that not how it’s supposed to be structured?

If you have local assets and extras, each edition should have its own folder.

Current structure is that I have a single folder “The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962)”, and within that I have folders named “Trailers”, “Featurettes”, etc. with the extras, and the two movies together in the folder:

The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962) {edition-Letterbox Version}.mkv
The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962) {edition-Smilebox Version}.mkv

So you’re saying I need to create a second top-level folder called (for example) “The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962) {edition-Smilebox Version}” and move the Smilebox version into that folder?

That’s correct.

That worked. Thank you. Simple enough, though not (I would contend) intuitive.
