When I add a folder to the library, like TVSHOWS and save. Plex then scans all folders that are in the add folders section. Do I have to keep each folder listed in the add folder section? Shouldn’t there be some why to add a new folder without scanning every pre-existing folder. I could use some help. If I removed previous folders then all of that content is removed from Plex.
Not sure I understand. You only need one location listed when adding folders to a TV Show library. I have 150 different TV Shows located in three folders on two hard drives so I end up having three folders listed when viewing “add folders” from library edit.
Thanks Your answer may give me a clue. I make a folder on my hard drive for each tv series that I’m up loading and I make a sub folder under that for each series number. I guess this is not the way to do it. If I understand you I should just add each show under tvshows as for instance - Rockford files s01e01 instead of folder Rockford files, sub-folder series 1, then Rockfordfiles s01e01. Which way is correct?
I think you almost got it. You create one main folder that your library points to. Then you add folders and subfolders under that for each Series That way, you don’t have to continually add new folders to your library – Plex knows to just look at the TV shows folder
It should look something like this:
TV SHOWS >>> The main folder you tell plex to look at for TV shows.
… \ … Rockford Files >>> The folder for the series Rockford Files (inside the TV SHOWS folder)
… \ … \ Season 01 >>> the folder for Season 1 of Rockford Files
… \ …\ … Rockford FIles S01E01.mkv >>> files for season 1
… \ …\ … Rockford FIles S01E02.mkv , etc
… \ … \ Season 02 >>> the folder for Season 2 of Rockford files
… \ … ANOTHER TV SHOW >>> The folder for another tv show (inside the TV SHOWS folder)
… \ … \ Season 01 >>> the folder for Season 1 of another show
Yup. That’s exactly how I’ve done it. However each time I add another folder to the TVshows library and save it, then plex will re-scan each one of the existing folders still in the library plus the recently added. Is this how it works or am I still missing something? I know if I remove a folder address from the library, then Plex removes that data from TVshows. I really appreciate the help you are giving me.
Just to be sure… when you say add a folder to the tv library do you mean
A) You add a folder named “NEW TV SHOW” to the folders plex scans (like in the image above)
B) or you add a subfolder named “NEW TV SHOW” under the TV shows folder on your computer
If it’s “A)” you are doing it wrong. I don’t THINK that’s what you did, but library means Plex library, and folder means computer folder to me, and we might not be using the same terms,
If it’s B) you can change the way Plex scans in Plex Web. Go to Settings >>> Server >>> Library
and set the check-mark for "Run a partial scan when changes are detected " It should eliminate the full library scan.
I’m set up like (B) so I’ll check into settings.
Well I checked my settings and I only have the Run partial scan box checked and it still checks every sub-folder that is in the library. Is it necessary to leave all the sub folders within the library once they have been scanned and added to the plex recently added?
