Adding Local Media Assests -> Trailers

Continuing the discussion from How do I manually add trailers to Plex 2018?:

I am trying to add trailers to my movies under the Extra section in the menu. Most if not all my movies are together in one folder, not in separate folders. I downloaded a .mov trailer file and renamed it the same as the movie and added -trailer to the end: (rogue.one.2016.720p.bluray.x264-sparks-trailer.mov), but it won’t show up. I then added the movie to a folder, and then put the above mentioned trailer like so… Movies > rogue.one.2016.720p.bluray.x264-sparks > Trailers > rogue.one.2016.720p.bluray.x264-sparks-trailer.mov and that worked, but standalone without it’s own folders, it’s not working. I even renamed everything simply Rogue One (2016).mkv and Rogue One (2016)-trailer.mov but still nothing. What am I doing wrong?

You’ve answered your own question.

Not saying your doing anything wrong. Just how Plex works.

Naming Movie Files says individual folders is not mandatory, but also states you “should usually” use nested folders for extras. That language might need to be strengthened up a bit.

From Naming Movie Files guidelines (emphasis added):
If you have external media for a movie (e.g. custom poster, external subtitles etc.) you should usually place the movie in a nested folder along with the custom media files. Name the folder the same as the movie file

Local Media Assets has additional information on adding extras.

Ok well that would make sense, but considering 4 months ago a Moderator (@tom80H) had posted in the link on my first post this:

  • Movies > Rogue One - A Star Wars Story (2016)-trailer.ext ← if you’re not using separate folders for each movie and Plex finds this file next to the actual movie file with the same name

I was hoping that it still might be the case.
