Plex does not display certain local extras (trailers) for a number of movies in my library. I’ve followed the naming recommendations, and all movie folders use that structure. Specifically, I create a folder with the movie name and year, then add trailers to a subfolder named Trailers. I have not changed any of the agents.
If I copy the asset and paste with the name “Movie (Year)-Theatrical Trailer-trailer.m4v” in the same folder as the main feature, leaving the original Trailers in place, Plex does find the trailer – only now it shows both. If I then remove only the Trailers folder, Plex once again ignores the “Movie (Year)-Theatrical Trailer-trailer.m4v” file that remains. Deleting and re-adding the movie and trailer folder structure does not help.

Right now you have this folder /Volumes/Plex/Media/Movies/
where you have many movies directly (i.e. without an own subfolder)
and some movies with a dedicated subfolder.
An experiment:
Create a second folder /Volumes/Plex/Media/MoviesPlus/
(make sure to create it beside your other Movies folder, not inside it)
Add this folder to your existing movie library, by editing it,
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab,
‘Browse for Media folder’
point it to the MoviesPlus folder.
Then move only those movies into it, which have an own dedicated subfolder.
e.g. Jurassic Park III (2001)
You must have no video file directly in the MoviesPlus folder.
Start small, with just a few movies.
Scan Library Files
Give it some time to scan the library. See what happens.
Hi Otto, thanks for replying! I tried as you’ve suggested, and despite letting the server run for a while, it hasn’t allowed the missing trailers to be found. I’ve attached updated logs here if that helps. Happy to provide any other info you think might be helpful or try other ideas.
The com.plexapp.agents.localmedia.log clearly shows that the trailer was recognized alright.
Are you perhaps expecting to see a single trailer underneath the movie details?
If there is only one movie extra, and that one extra happens to be a trailer, then you’ll only see a small icon above the movie details:
