Adding movie extras

Server Version#: 1.21.4.4079
Player Version#: Version 4.51.3
I need some info on he following:

  1. A way to manually add trailers or extras to a particular movie subfolder(ex. bypass any search agents on that subfolder)
  2. when i create the subfolders under a movie folder in my nas, do i need to add a folder in plex server for all sub folders or just the movie folder in order for the trailers in the subdirectory to show up.
3.Does the does the subdirectory need to follow a specific naming convention.
  3. do the trailer files in the subdirectory need to follow a naming convention.

I have followed the guide for naming all the above and IT JUST DOES NOT WORK. The agents are looking for the extras or trailers and simply adding some random movie from 2020(see screenshot for movie bloodlink that i selected a get info on and notice the path for that movie is actually the path to the trailer that goes to my copy of the movie Key Largo.

That’s not possible, unfortunately.

However, your example shows a potential issue with your folder naming. When organizing extras in a sub-folder of the movie folder, the sub-folder must be named using a specific convention. From the support document covering this:

Organized in Subdirectories
You can organize your local extras into specific subdirectories inside
the main directory named for the movie. Extras will be detected and used
if named and stored as follows:
Movies/MovieName (Release Date)/Extra_Directory_Type/Descriptive_name.ext
Where Extra_Directory_Type is one of:
Behind The Scenes
Deleted Scenes
Featurettes
Interviews
Scenes
Shorts
Trailers
Other

Or, if you’d prefer not to use sub-folders for a movie’s extras, they can be placed in the movie folder. In that case you’d need to name the extra files with a trailing type, such as:
Key Largo International Trailer-trailer.mkv

This is covered in the above-linked document as well.

Either way you decide to go, to have the extras be detected and shown, you must refresh metadata for the movie(s) in question; a library scan will not pick them up. To refresh metadata, use the overflow menu (vertical ellipsis) on the movie poster.

Thank you, is the non sub folder method of naming the file with the trailing type going to be something that the search agents are going to be checking for a match?, because when they dont find one, they seem to be adding the it as a new movie

When using in-line files for extras, they should not be detected as stand-alone movies as long as:

  • the movie itself resides in its own same-named folder; and
  • the extras are in the same folder; and
  • the extras are named using one of the recognized “-type” designations.

For example:

/volumes1/Plex/Movies/
    Key Largo (1948)/
        Key Largo (1948).mkv
        Largo-trailer.mkv

The recognized “-type” designations are listed in the document I linked above.
