Adding music fails when a dash "-" is in the folder name

Hi,

I recently noticed (since server version 1.18.4.2171?) that Plex ignores music files when the folder name contains a dash “-”. Unfortunately a lot of iTunes albums has a dash in the album name.

The folder structure is as following (classis iTunes folder structure that is compatible with Plex I believe):

\iTunes Media\Artist\Album** Song Name

For example I had this track: iTunes Media\Riton\Hammer of Thor - EP\02 Hammer of Thor

Plex didn’t add the track after scanning the library. When I switched it to: iTunes Media\Riton\Hammer of Thor\02 Hammer of Thor Plex recognized the track perfectly in the library. I could replicate this with other tracks in with different folder names.

This haven’t been a problem until now unfortunately. I have tons of albums in the Plex library that contains a “-”.

Is this a bug or a modification in the Plex media scanner?

Thank you in advance!

Not anymore.

The whole music import has been rewritten. It now uses musicbrainz.org as its primary source of metadata (with added bells and whistles from other sources, like allmusic.com and last.fm).

You now always need to have the principal structure of
music / album artist / album title / tracks

A dash may be interpreted as separation of artist and album title.

Thank you for you answer, very clear. I was aware of the change, but I didn’t know a dash could be interpreted wrongly.

Honestly that is not very handy, now you always have to intervene manually when downloading music from iTunes (and eventually other sources)…
