Ads are taking over you app!

What’s going on!? Long time plex member with lifetime membership is getting ads when viewing his own content. Not only that, it’s screwing up you app on AppleTV. Nice try on trying to make some money off my own home videos! But just drop it. And concentrate more on the bugs that are still present on at least the appleTV.

You chose to view a streaming version of something in your library rather than the one from your actual library.

Yes, you did.

Yeah, as bluntly as cblevins put it, that is what happened. What CAN happen, is if you pin Plex’s own free streaming service to your sidebar, Plex can combine your “Continue Watching” widget using items from THEIR service instead of your own source.

I don’t think it’s anything nefarious, but more a side-effect of how Plex marks shows using their own internal ID number. Since YOUR show’s ID is the same as that on their free service, the client gets confused and simply plays one of the two sources, which happens to be the ad-based one instead of your own (most-likely) ad-free version.

I see this all the time when I pause a movie in one library, and resume it later. Plex will pick the one from a different library instead, since I have a copy in both (One has special commentary track, so I keep it separate).

Thanks i do have it pinned. I moved it down to bottom for that reason. But what I noticed is in the home folder. My continue watching had a duplicate, I thought it was a new bug. 1 must of been my library and the other was ad happy networks… I see no way to distinguish the difference between the two… Both are still there. Maybe I should unpin that folder as well? How long has plex been out? This is the first time its happened to me. Not sure when the non library ad streaming networks were added. No I didn’t.

The Plex streaming has been around a year or more. I believe that most free streaming options are for obscure shows/movies I’d likely not watch at all, so are also likely to not have in my library. It’s possible that you just didn’t have any content in your server that also happened to be on Plex’s own services until now.

Aside from completely removing the free movies/shows by disabling it in options, you could unpin it to home. That would require you to click on the More > button at the bottom of your menu every time you wish to see their free offerings, but at least they’d stop merging with your existing items in your Home’s “Continue Watching”.
