Ads are way to loud in free movies and tv

The ads are playing at twice the volume of the free content. You have to level this out. People have complained about this on network TV for years. Hard to believe no one on the plex side realized this.

agreed

@Vatash @TeknoJunky I am unable to reproduce this with my current setup. Would you be able to provide me with the devices you are using as well as the device version and Plex app versions?

If this is via a TV, do you have a sound system? I am testing with the built in TV speakers or headphones, so I’d like to rule out some possibilities if I can.

I’ve only used so far, ios plex app 6.5.1 on ipad 6th gen ios 13.3

the videos/ads I listed in my other post in the linked thread above

the plex+tidal ad has been the worst loudness offender thus far.

the problem may be content specific (different content mastered at different levels), but again the plex+tidal ad was way loud.

try watching terminator 1

I once read that on the tv, ads are always louder because they know you’ll use ad time to go pee, and they want to make sure you still hear them from the bathroom

We agree that the ads are too loud. We’ve been investigating it and hope to normalize them so they are not so jarring and disruptive.

Thanks for the response

leveraging the existing volume leveling from plex music would be great.

for both free and local video content.

then we could also get audio volume maps on the time scrubber, in the same manner as music.

AND we could get volume leveling for ā€˜night’ viewing in the bargain.

(and I do realize that volume leveling is not the same as volume compression, but baby steps)

3 different nvidia shields. All with different sound options. Surround, TV speakers and headphones respectively. Also on 2 PC’s and 1 laptop. Its the individual commercials, certain ones more than others.

Having the same problem. Using Sony TV running Android.
The Cox contour ad is twice as loud as the movie and plays almost every commercial break, sometimes twice in a row.

after i got the email announcement i launched plex server, went to the new section, selected escape from new your and the ad volume was just fine. it was at the same level as the movie.

Grave_Digger, Plex has responded in this thread that they know this is a problem. It seems to be with certain ads. FYI

Glad you did not have issues like some of us.

If anyone has to go pee every seven minutes - I can recommend a good Urologist.

Wow 7 minutes… I haven’t tried the streaming service yet as there’s almost no content in spanish, but with ads every 7 minutes chances are I won’t be using it no matter what content they add… Kind of YouTube, who used to have a banner at the bottom and now every 3 minutes the video stops to show ads… Watching videos is now a pain in the a$$…

looks like they are following how television does it. 18 minutes of commercials per hour, but with television you usually 4 commercial breaks per hour NOT 6. makes a huge difference on trying to follow the show or movie.

now on a side note i’m glad the mods removed the one post.

I was speaking about Broadcast TV. I actually watched about 40 minutes of some bad quality Moonstruck without seeing an ad, but I’m sure I was lucky. Think I’ll quit while I’m ahead…lol

I decided to give this a shot and watched Terminator. Well I thought it odd I didn’t see a single commercial for more than half the movie, although the movie froze at weird times every ten minutes or so. The movie finally died though and said ā€œwe can’t reach the serverā€. Ok. The movie would not resume, just sat on a loading screen. Ok, I’ll try tomorrow.

Upon trying again I was greeted to a speaker blow out loud ā€œWinstar casinoā€ advert that forced me to emergency turn off my tv and exit playback. I will not be using this service again.

Each one seems louder than the last, 1st loud, 2nd louder, 3rd double the volume of the show.

I’ve reported the ad loudness issues to our ad folks.

In the mean time the mute button gets a work out. :joy:
