Ads in my Plex news!? Lifetime Plex Pass

I got a lifetime plex pass so that I would not have to be subjected to commercials when using this application. As of yesterday they have started playing when watching Plex News. They play more often on here than on live TV. What gives? Is there a way to disable the commercials or will I need to disable this media source outright and use another news application?

Thanks,

You probably misunderstood. The Plex pass does not guarantee ad-freeness. It is probably also not advertised as that.

it stripped the ads out of my local content. Now they are added to the news? A little misleading I would say.

there has never been ads in your local content

plex pass has nothing to do with ad supported content, it is available for all, and all can enable/disable as you see fit.

that is simply not true. If you use Plex on a cellphone without a plex pass you will receive ads. Not using a web browser but with their app. Once you get a plex pass these ads stop coming through on local content.

mobile apps require an unlock, or plex pass.

that has been true since way before any of the ad supported content.

I thought you meant removing ads from dvred content, that would have made sense. What you are not saying doesn’t

So it looks like I will rely on other news applications for my news, as I didn’t pay the cash required for a lifetime pass so that I could spend time watching commercials. Disappointing to say the least.

I’m trying to say I didnt get ads in my plex news until yesterday and now I am. I am not pleased by this and want to turn them off.

Then you were probably lucky, but I never used News so I have no idea.

I have a Pi Hole running on my network, maybe it has blocked it until now or something

I actually do have updates pending on there that I hadn’t seen. It may very well be my pihole being out of date

I don’t know if pi hole can even do this, the ads must come through Plex probably from the same domain.

I didnt think it could do in-app blocking either actually, I am going to update it and test

Pi hole blocks based on dns. The ad would need to come from a different domain, which is probably not the case. Still I don’t know this for sure.

good call, I remember it worked for a while with youtube until they made some changes related to this. fingers crossed lol

They are still present unfortunately. Boo!

They are part of the game. News is for everybody. You don’t even need a server, nor a Plex pass.

True that, it makes sense when you put it that way. I appreciate your input today it has been helpful!

Glad I could “help”. Stay safe
