Advertisements during a slideshow of my photos

What the hell? I am playing a slideshow of local photos, and all of a sudden I am getting ads in the middle of it! As a lifetime Plexpass member this is unacceptable. I am not paying for a server with my own local content to watch ads. FWIW, I was using Plex on a FireTV. I have not verified other devices, but it should not matter.

Plex does not play ads inbetween your own content. Never has, never will.

Look for recently installed apps which may have infected your stick with malware.

See this thread for a few suggestions: Nude Ads with Plex

I have no recently installed apps. The only ones that were just updated are Netflix and Plex.

Please read my link.

I did. It did not help. I have performed a factory reset on my Amazon Fire TV 4k (not a stick), installed Plex, and Netflix, and nothing else. There was a video ad for what appeared to be Godzilla during a slideshow of my photos.

So either a) Plex is an insecure app, b) Amazon is injecting ads and therefore 1 needs to be fixed, or c) Netflix is the problem and still 1 needs to be fixed. I uninstalled Netflix, so there is nothing left, and I am still getting the Godzilla video. I guess another option is that Plex or Netflix are compromised on Amazon’s servers.

I will do another factory reset, and only install Plex, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

And once again I did a factory reset and ONLY installed Plex. The Godzilla ad is there. So it’s Plex, or Amazon causing the problem. This is not okay.

Can we see screenshot of this. Since you are saying the Plex player is doing this can you make sure the player controls are showing.

I searched my photos library to make sure this video wasn’t in there anywhere. And it was not. Looks like I’m having trouble uploading the video. I’ll try the screenshot.

That looks like the Cinema Trailers feature that should only show in Movie libraries if you have it enabled. The feature is for folk who like too have the “movie theater experience” by it showing random trailers before the movie they are about to play from other things in their library or new releases in real theaters or DVD releases. Definitely a bug if showing in a “Photo” or “Other Video” libraries even if enabled.

So first can we double check what sort of library it is. In the web app on computer Can you take a screenshot of your libraries in the web app and point out which one you were playing something from in. Don’t need to see the contents just the left side bar like image below.
32%20AM

A movie library will have different settings than other type and one will be to enabled Cinema Trailers. if you edit the library and click on Advanced can you make sure this setting is not there. (it should not exist for other types of libraries)

Finally in your servers “Extras” settings can you see if any of these Cinema Trailers options are enabled. for the type of trailers. That Gozilla movie just came out on Blu-ray I think so would have been from the upcoming on Blu-ray setting

I would not expect to see any trailers during a photo slide show, but certainly makes sense for pre-play before movies.

Okay, attached is a screenshot of my photos library. It’s set to a photos type library. I have disabled trailers from any of my movie libraries, and also changed the extras settings, unchecking all cinema trailers except the first option. I’ll give it a few runs to see if any trailers come up. Photos%20Library

And nope, that did not solve the issue. BTW, it appears to only happen if I start a slideshow from the home screen’s recently added photos. If I manually go into the photos it doesn’t.

Here’s another one after a few more pictures: The Unseen. They’re always in the same order, and the same trailers.

After the trailer is over it shows another photo? Does this only happen on the Fire TV? does it happen in the web browser or other Plex player?

Can you grab the logs from the Fire TV after it plays one of these trailers. here is info on how to get them. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/

also logs from the server after is happens might be good. I’m not sure if the player is making a bad request, or the server is delivering something unrequested.

(edit almost forgot. there is another Cinema Trailers option in the app itself. Settings>Experience row. Cinema Trailers before movies. make sure is set to none)

After the trailer is over, the slideshow continues. I just tried it in Chrome on my Android phone, and the same thing happened. In the settings under PLEX WEB → Player → Extras, Cinema Trailers to Play Before Movies is set to none.

I’ll try to look at the settings on the FireTV and get logs after work.

Logs are attached in a PM.
