Hello, I just recently joined PLEX Pass so that I can enjoy my video library while traveling. I’m thrilled with the results, and really amazed that almost with out fail I can stream just using my telephone reception. Everything is working great, but I keep seeing updates available to download but am really skittish about downloading as fear things may go haywire. If I download a Plex update will all settings remain the same, i.e. just the program updates, or will it take me back to square one so I have to start all over??
Comments appreciated
Thanks
Joe
I update all the time, automatically, nothing ever got broken. Plex is pretty wonderful
Yes, all remains. I am not a “early adopter” of new releases, but an update is pretty painless overall the vast majority of the time. I have never had an issue with an update yet.
this is the 1st server update in over a year that actually worked. normally didnt and then had to fully uninstall and try again
No guarantees. Best to keep your server updated. It’s a bad idea to skip numerous updates imho. When you see an update available, read through the forums to see if users are reporting issues (**it happens) and then decide on when to update.
I rarely update(once or twice a year), but when I do, I’ve had no problems.
I’m on the plex pass stream and never had issues updating… 2-3yrs now
Previously I was using the debian custom builds and also never had an issue nor had to reinstall
Worse that happened was something odd happened with the plugins and had to wipe/repopulate them
I always download the update from this website, close the Plex Server application, and run the update manually - never once had a problem.
I’ve been updating for years since day one and never had one go foul. But I have regularly scheduled ZFS snapshots taking place so I already have a contingency plan in case something went wrong. I’ve never installed PMS on Windows or Mac though, so I’m not sure how things might go on a consumer/desktop OS.
