Media Server Not Found - LG TV Media Link

Hi All,

I used to enjoy my videos on LGTV Media Link. TV Model 42LW5700, Firmware version 05.10.05. Recently I can’t access the server.
In Device Selection, I can see my Plex Server listed. A click on it doesn’t take me to the server.

Running Plex on MacMini macOS Sierra
Plex Server Version Version 1.2.6.2975

No issues in accessing my server from iOS, tvOS, Roku, Android devices.

Any clue how to fix this?

Thanks,
Satheesh

I’m experiencing the exact same behavior as you.

TV LG 42LS5700-UA (latest firmware)
Plex Media Server v1.2.6.2975 on Windows 10 (Anniversary)

Interestingly, I have an older version of Plex Media Server running on a QNAP NAS (TS-420) with PMS 0.9.16.6 on the same network and that is working fine with Media Link.

This looks to be an Authentication issue between newer versions of PMS and the older Media Link. This seems to be by design: This can be useful if you have an old, legacy, unsupported app (such as LG’s MediaLink or SmartShare apps) that you wish to use.

I overcame the issue by removing authentication between the LG TV and Plex Media Server:

  1. In my router, I assigned a static IP Address to my LG TV (how to do this will depend on your router)
  2. Added the LG TV IP Address to the “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”
  • Open Plex Web App
  • Select the appropriate PMS Server in the drop down at the top left
  • Go to Settings->Server->Network
  • Click the “Show Advanced” button
  • At the bottom add the LG TV IP address to the textbox under “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”
  • Click “Save Changes”

After that my Media Server was working with my LG TV.

I have exact the same issue after i updated from 1.1.4.xxx to 1.2.6.xxx on a Synology DS214 ARMv7. On version 1.1.4.xxx i already have to whitelist my device at the network settings on PMS. But with the old version it worked fine.

Hi tuzo, Shaggy_muh, Thanks for your reply.

Added the LG TV IP Address to the “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”

fixed the issue. Thanks a lot

needed a little bit more for me - needed the IP of the LG TV also but stead I just permitted my entire local subnet In my case this is 192.168.0.0/24

this worked for me.
Thank you.

Thank you! This worked to fix mine after a recent forced PMS updated. Thanks, Roku update, for that. Otherwise I would have stayed on older PMS.
