After changing password i can't access my media by web browser

I’m not on DSM7

Tried this on QNAP and got this error:

plex.tv Password:
plex.tv Password Repeated:
IP Address of PMS server: 127.0.0.1
Comparing entered passwords
Comparing entered passwords ok
Validating IP address
Getting PMS Server Identifier
Getting PMS Server Identifier ok
Getting User Token from plex.tv
******** ERROR ********
We failed to authenticate towards plex.tv
Please check username and password, as well as network access

I have triple confirmed the credentials are correct. I am also able to ping google.com successfully from the command line. I cannot ping plex.tv however. But i can ping app.plex.tv.

Is this a server problem on the Plex side? Are things just completely overloaded?

The ability to do so only shows up if you have an “unclaimed” server on your network - because I claimed mine, I’m just going from memory, but:

  1. start/stop/start your server just for good measure
  2. go to app.plex.tv in your browser (I have never seen this in the Windows app, btw)
  3. assuming you do not see anything from your server, go to “MORE>” in the left panel
  4. you should see your server name along with red icon (which I if I remember correctly it looks like a broken padlock)
  5. Click it.
  6. at the bottom of the left panel you should see a “cannot connect to server” error message
  7. keep clicking “retry” and eventually a problem to reclaim the server appears - select that.

Again, this is ALL from memory from a few hours ago. If someone has a more exact workflow they should post it here.

EDIT: just saw there is a simpler way to do it:
https://www.plex.tv/claim/
and follow the instructions.

I also changed my password as per the email. I did NOT get a Claim Server… Now mine says “Server Not Available” - shows it as there but not available… any help ASAP would be great

Where does this go… I clicked the link and all it does it copy it… what app is this supposed to go in… I have no idea what to do with it

Hey Plex… now I have completely lost my server. I have no idea how to find it let alone connect it. Please help ASAP. We are running our NAS on the NVidia Shield Pro

So we’re now ±24h later and nothing has changed for me. Tried every solution that was offered here in the forums and I’m still left with this every time I try to connect to Plex locally on my QNAP NAS:
Plex error

Is this still due to the Plex servers being overloaded and if so, when can we expect that aspect of the problem to be resolved?
Because if I understood correctly, as explained by many expert users and Plex employees, whatever solution one tries to resolve this issue is futile and useless until those Plex servers are fully up & running and accessible…correct?

I am in a different country to my Ready NAS so I can’t go in on the local IP. How can I get my Plex up and running again remotely? Have tried so many things but it just doesn’t even have an option to be able to claim it.

In my frustration yesterday after resetting my password and being disconnected from my extensive media, and not having any screen option as a lot of folks have to claim my server, in the devices screen I removed my media server thinking I would reload my media. But all I get when I click on add media is an offer to install Plex Media Server. It is installed. I tried installing it again several times, and tried uninstalling it and then installing it again (it is the current version), but all I get from Plex is an offer to download it again. What’s going on, and how can I rebuild my libraries??? This is a nightmare.

It is so weird, getting this email from Plex, stating that the passwords were not taken because of them being hashed and all, still wants us to change the password and see how many problems this causes.
We all have in some way a PMS running at home, and logging in on that PMS was also my first action, setting the 2FA active, coupled my phone with google authenticator, and there! I was convinced this would work.
Now my TV, that had a link asked for a link-code, which I provided and it worked again. No hassel with username/password etc… So, piece of cake? Nope, my android tablet I use to listen to music from my PMS when in bed, asked to log in on my server! Now that was no problem, so it then asked for the 2FA code, and then it did not work, again I tried, and again, it did not work. Went back to my laptop, same idiotic thing, logging in did also not work.
At this point I was kinda frustrated and confused and had it with this tiresome action while ones TV worked by a simple link (LG) and my android tablet refused.

Why are those actions not all the same? If I change the password on my PMS, I surely should not have to use that same login process to get into my plex client, should I?

So, tip for the devs, Why am I being directed to PLEX.TV/bla bla when I try to access my PMS over the internet directly? Why is that? and most of all, why does it makes such a mess in different signing in when only the PMS password was changed? and not the connection to a client?

I think I have it all wrong, as usual, but I needed this to be said, because clearly, I was not the only one having some sort of problems after changing a simple password.

Oh and FYI, that 2FA is deactivated, it cause a lot of troubles. Think of a better solution to secure our servers. (In the direction of clients-trusting them? and if a new device accesses it, let the PMS accept it or refuse it, would that not be a better idea?)

@Nickster Did you activate connection over internet on? Is your router abled to let you in on it? If not, this is very hard and if someone in your house can access it, that might be helpful. Any other way is as far as I can see impossible, until you get home. Sorry for not being helpful.

(I use a real Windows Server that I can access over internet and that enables me to do far more than a readynas or similar device who only has an app.)

@Chumbo I see this problem so often, I too had problems, but I had the luxery of having my own Windows server that I can easily access over the world.
You should check the QNAP-NAS if the plex app is running then try in your local network to access it by its ipadres (instead of LOCALHOST) and the following
http://localhost:32400/web/index.html#!/
See what you get then…
Hope this helped a bit.

Please see: (Re-)Claiming a QNAP Plex Media Server

There are a lot paying members who have similar devices that have these problems.
Why did this happen?

Ok. This is for those that had issues with Synology setup, but should work for most situations.

Requirements

NOTE: make sure your NAS is running in 192.x.x.x.x range, or 10.x.x.x range. This was KEY to getting mine sorted - as i was using 11.x.x.x

I simply ran the windows winform app in vs2019.

entered the credentials, and pointed at the IP of the NAS box, and all was well.

then went back into the usual plex server x.x.x.x/web as stated on the Claimit app.

hey presto! all is well. however, because i blatted my whole setup, and re-installed like 5 times. I had to re-add all my content.

NOTE: if you didnt blatt your server, all your settings should still all be there. may be need to re-add the folders to your shared contacts.

Hope this helps guys/gals. it certainly reduced alot of my stress! hahaahaha

I have two servers running, one on a local network and one on a seedbox. I changed my password yesterday, shut down both servers, re-claimed them and I can start Plex and see my libraries and data - but only if I don’t try a secure connection. If i try via an app or app.plex.tv, I get “unable to connect to “” securely”. Attempts via Shield and iPad apps fail as well. It seems like I’m most of the way there, just have this last hurdle. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, I can access my ReadyNAS and Plex (usually) online as I have port forwarding and DDNS.

So, you can get overseas into your house, sort of speak, but is there a computer you can access? or can you get to the device’s webpage?
Try restarting the NAS is what I was thinking of, but how did you change the password?
Through the PLEX.TV website? damn…
You need local access to your device to access the PMS and work from there… Anyone at home who can help?

Only person at home is someone who is such a technophobe that they have a hard time with the microwave :frowning:

Please restart your servers…

Certificate renewal was stuck, so we kickstarted it
