After moving files to new share Plex no longer finds the nested sub-folders

Plex Server Version 1.12.2.4929
Running on QNAP 451+ version 4.3.4.0537 (2018/03/31)

Previously I had my movies all saved under the \Movies_Vol1\ share on my 4-bay NAS. Under that they were broken down by genre. For a series of movies I broke them down by name.

example: \Movies_Vol1\Family\Ice Age\Ice Age - Collision Course.mp4

I wanted to break out my family movies into it’s own library. I created the share “Family Movies” (also on the same drive on the NAS) and moved the files. I re-scanned both the library they came form, and the new “Family Movies” share. When I scanned the new share it recognized the one-off movies but none of the nested folders (such as the Ice Age folder listed in the example).

Currently this is the way the new share is set.
\Family Movies\Ice Age\Ice Age - Collision Course.mp4

I’ve tried removing both of the Plex library pointing at Movies_Vol1 and Family Movies. I emptied the trash and cleaned bundles. I re-added both of the libraries. I see the nested folders in the Library pointing to \Movies_Vol1. However Plex still does not see the nested folders in the Library pointing at \Family Movies.

I also tried adding a Genre folder under the share. Below is an example of the updated path. This did not work either.
\Family Movies\Family\Ice Age\Ice Age - Collision Course.mp4

As a note, when adding the Family Library back I browsed to the share in the Plex UI. When I clicked on the share it showed me what was in the share. It did not include the folders in the list. I’ve been looking at permissions on the folders and they look ok.

Looking at the page (https://support.plex.tv/articles/200381023-naming-movie-files/) for naming files It seems to me like it should be finding them. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, I think I found the problem. I needed an underscore in the share name. It didn’t like Family Movies. Once I changed the share name to Family_Movies it recognized all the sub folders.

Very strange because it was recognizing all the one-off movies. I was also doing some quick test by adding Read/Write permissions to the everyone group. I don’t think the change to permissions fixed it though because it was still broken after the change. It may have needed time to propagate possibly but I’m still skeptical at this point.

I’ll need to remove that though for security. If that breaks it again I’ll update the post.
