After server install, sent to Plex.TV, cannot go to server with local IP

Server Version#: latest as of Nov and Dec 2018
Player Version#: n/a

A relative is having odd issues installing then not being able to access or configure Plex Server.

Windows 7, he’s the admin, the machine is 32 bit.

When he installs (I did it with him as well), it finishes the install, and then it jumps to Plex.TV via browser, no matter what he does.

I used the local IP, and LOCALHOST, with port 32400 on the URL, with ane without /web/ added - same result, it immediately redirects to Plex.TV. He can NOT get to the server, and in fact looking at Services (Admin), there is ONLY a Plex Update service, running, not Plex Server. Rebooting does not help.

Help?! Thanks.

This has happened for about a month now, multiple install/uninstall attempts.

Is it a 32-bit machine quirk? I ha en’t had one in years so I cannot replicate at my own house easily (I don['t bother with an VM ware any more for anything).

Plex.tv is used as an intermediary to authenticate when you try to login. It will still access your plex library locally it just doesn’t use your localip:32400 as the address anymore it just sorta proxy shows plex.tv as the URL.

Unfortunately it’s not that simple.

A fresh install of Plex. It redirects to Plex.TV. His login does no good. It does not5 go back to the server (especially since there is no Plex service running after install except the Update service). It will never go back to “his server” even if it WERE running UNLESS he had been given the chance to go into Settings and tell it his Plex login (which never happens).

This is SO queer.

Side note: I always use the local IP to get to my server if I’m in my house or on my VPN externally. This behavior of jumping to Plex.TV’s set is new to me, when I go to 192.168.0.99:32400/web/ …that just makes NO sense.

Rule#1: don’t use Edge. If your default browser is Edge, install either Chrome or Firefox and open http:/127.0.0.1:32400/web in them instead.

If there was already a Plex server installation on this machine in the past, remove the old plex.tv credentials from the registry:

No Edge involvement. Only Chrome.

LAN IP address and LOCALHOST both tried as already mentioned.

Existing directories completely deleted prior to reinstall attempts.

Directories are not really critical.
The Plex-related content in the Windows registry needs to be deleted.

If the registry needs to be cleaned, Plex should go out of business now.
