Hi, sorry if this was already posted, did not find much on it other than it apparently was already resolved at some point in 2014.
I am having the issue that when I open flex from the sidebar in the start menu it opens to IP 127.0.0.1:32400 etc. when my actual local IP address is 192.168.100.12. This basically makes it so that I cannot setup the server for remote access, it only allows access via a Relay. I resolved it by manually typing my actual local IP address followed by 32400.
It now works, however whenever I restart my computer I once again have to type my actual local IP address manually or remote access only works via the Plex Relay. I believe this is a bug and therefore reporting it and attaching my log file (hope it’s the correct one).
Plex Version: 1.0.3.2461
OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64 Bit
thanks guys
Hmm. Not sure if I follow but… Browsing to Plex while on the actual computer it is installed on via localhost isn’t anything wrong per se. It will listen to both. I’m curious as to where you type in the LAN IP to make remote access work again. Perhaps a screenshot of the Plex settings page containing remote status might help - you can obfuscate your external WAN IP for security reason (just blob it over in Paint or such).
127.0.0.1 is just “localhost”. Im assuming the PC your opening plex on isnt the machine that PMS is installed on?
If it is then nothing it wrong. using 127.0.0.1 or localhost or the local IP (192.168.X.X) will work, and are basically the same thing.
Thanks for your reply. Issue here is that if I click on “open Plex” in the PMS agent it goes to the 127.0.0.1 address, opens plex but remote coonections are not working. If I manually type the 192/168/etc address to access Plex, then remote connections work. Super weird.

Sorry, but I’m still not following you. Can we please repeat this again and really get to the bottom of it as to ascerain what the issue truly is.
You have Plex server installed on a Windows computer. Said computer has - how many network cards? Any other services such as VPN? - and is connected to a router via - WIFI or cable? - which provides it with an internal IP that ends in .12. Besides that internal IP the computer also listens on localhost for connections done directly on the computer itself (127…).
When you browse Plex Web, sitting directly at the computer it goes to localhost / IP 127… - is it that you on a different computer try to use this IP that might be the core issue? Because that IP (localhost) will only work while sitting at the computer itself (simplified, there are advanced tunneling methods). As soon as you move away from said computer, while still on the local network, you need to use the 192 IP if you were to try and reach it.
Truly remote, that is outside your router, while on a phone or such one should really go via the hosted plex web that Plex provides and not directly against IP - for the sake of simplicity. But this requires a working remote connection setup. Could you please provide us with screenshots of how your Plex settings is in regards of this? Have you followed this help article? https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200484543

Ok, this is how my setup works and it’s normal.
My pc with PMS installed on it ip address is: 192.168.1.105
While on that pc to access my media I can use the following:
127.0.0.1:32400 or localhost:32400 or 192.168.1.105:32400.
When I’m on a different PC, but still. On the same local network.
192.168.1.105:32400
When I’m trying to access my media remote (not on the local network)
118.123.455.213:32400 - or what ever I address my ISP has assigned me. The other way is to log into plex.tv/web.
If your system is the same, or similar then it’s working correctly.
Connecting from a different PC won’t work with 127.0.0.1:32400 because that I address basically says “look at Port 32400 on the pc im on, and connect to it”.
When you say remote connections are not working, what do you mean? Are you saying using the address 127.0.0.1:32400 doesn’t work?
Because that is correct. As you have said in your post, you have to use the IR address of the server PC when accessing from a different PC.
