After upgrading to 1.41.2.9092 (beta), new recordings can't be played

I’m running Plex Media Server on Windows. It did fix a few issues, such as transcending issues I’ve had for a few versions.

Everything I’ve recorded in the last 15 hours since I’ve upgraded has not been able to be played back in Plex Web. It shows an error message:

“Playback Error
An error occurred trying to play ‘program name’.
Error code: s1001 (Network)”

The .ts file exists and is playable in VLC, but it seems like Plex Web is unsure how to transcode it or something. Even it doesn’t generate a thumbnail image.

There are errors associated with your transcode directory, including an “Access Denied”. Is your D: drive a local drive, or a mapped network drive? (FYI, Plex does not recommend having the transcode directory on a network drive as it causes issues.)

A simple first troubleshooting step would be to simply try changing your Plex Server’s transcode directory to a different location (if that is an option) and see if it fixes the problem.

Specific to your D:\Plex Transcoder\Transcode location, take a look at permissions. Also, if nothing is being recorded or transcoded then normally the “Sessions” subdirectory in your Transcode directory should be empty. If there are files there then you could try shutting down your Plex Server instance to see if that cleans up. If not then your should be safe deleting transcode files when Plex Server is down, though backups are always a good idea.

I tried removing all the Transcode folder and nothing changed. It is a local drive, not a network drive. And I don’t think anything to do with permissions on it has changed in years.

All videos play fine, except for ones recorded after I upgraded to 1.41.2.9092. So I don’t think the problem is the transcoder, or it would not play videos I recorded days or weeks ago.

And like I said, if I open the file in VLC, it can play the recorded file. But I guess I’ll record something else now that I deleted the Transcoder folder and it looks like it recreated what it needed.

Even after downgrading to 1.40.5.8854, new recordings made in the last few days cannot be played in the Plex tools with the above errors logged. Odd. I hope a fix is found soon.

Huh. I restarted my Windows machine, and now it’s working better. I guess I should have tried that earlier. I knew that I should have tried that.
