Album Art/Artist Cover Not Showing

Hello, I am working on moving my household to Plex(amp) for our music streaming (to get away from Spotify). I am having issues with many albums and artists not showing album art. Oddly, this mostly seems to happen for larger artists.

For one example, I have the album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT by Billie Eilish in my music directory and the album showing and playable in Plex, but I cannot get it to match the album art no matter what.

The music has been matched in Picard to ensure the metadata is formatted correctly. I have even added the album art in the directory

I have tried changing each of the options (Agent, Prefer Local Metadata, Album Art) in the Library settings and none of them appear to make the artwork appear. Currently, I have it set to the below

Similarly, the artist page for Billie Eilish is not showing any cover art

Trying to manually add a “poster” shows no results for this (and several other) artist.

I have many such cases. Some other artists, include extremely popular acts like Coldplay, Hozier, Lorde, as well as some smaller artists: The Armed, Machinegirl, The Marias. All artists that have full profile in Musicbrainz are certainly should have matches.

Additional Server Info:

Running latest version. Host is a NUC PC running Linux Mint (a Ubuntu variant). Music files are hosted on an external hard drive, organized such as Music > Artists > [artist name] > [album name] > [song files]

Most files are mp3 files

I’ve checked many similar such articles for this issue and have been unsuccessful in finding a solution. Any help is most appreciated! Let me know if further info or logging would help.

I might have found the solution. While checking file permissions, I found the Metadata folder was owned by Root not Plex. Ran a chown on that folder to change it to owned by Plex and now the meta data appears to be syncing.

EDIT:

Ok so to confirm, this was indeed the issue here. My server logs were showing Errors relating to creating metadata.

I checked the permissions of the Plex Media Server Folder and found that the Metadata folder was owned by Root not Plex like the others

I ran a chown to Plex:

And now all of my albums are showing the embedded artwork:

And all the related artists are also pulling cover photos.
