Album Artist Override

Plex insists on renaming album artists incorrectly. I’ve been cleaning up my soundtrack library. The files are .wavs (no embedded meta data). The folders are titled “Soundtrack - show name”. I manually change the Album Artist field from Various Artists to my preference of the show name. Plex accepts the change, saves the change, and then a second or two later reverts to something different:

The Bodyguard → The Bodyguards
Cats → CATS
The Greatest Showman → The Greatest Hoax.

etc. How do I stop this behavior?

OK, if I make the edit from the Artists view instead of the Albums view, it seems to stick. Apparently Plex originally matched to some obscure Biography. Had to delete that text as well.

  1. convert wav to flac
  2. embed metadata. both “Album Artist” and “Track Artist”
  3. put the soundtrack albums into the recommended folder structure https://support.plex.tv/articles/200265296-adding-music-media-from-folders/
    If an album doesn’t have the same AlbumArtist as all the others, it must not be stored within the same Artist folder as the other albums. i.e. each individual AlbumArtist requires a separate Artist folder.
