Cannot change Artist name of albums

Really strange thing happening here. Going through my music library and finding the few albums that are not tagged too well and fixing them through Plex. I know I should fix the actual tags but for the very few I have I don’t care. So, I find a “various artist” album that clearly was Daniel Roeth. I changed the Artist to him and that’s done, great. Then I see another various artist and this one is, only it’s compiled by Androcell so I would like the Artist name to be this. I change that and where does it end up? -> As Daniel Roeth…??? Even when I edit at the track level this happens.

What I know:
-This only happens when I try to change the Artist to someone that is not currently in the Album Artist list. I can change anything I want to Pink Floyd because they are already in the library.
-I can change (originally Various Artist) the Daniel Roeth Album Artist to ANYTHING I want. I can rename it “Plex forum post” and it will show up in my Artist list. And when I try to edit again that compilation album that I would prefer to show as artist Androcell??? Now it shows as artist “Plex forum post”!!!???!?!
-As a final test I put Daniel Roeth back as various artists and tried moving the Androcell compilation. This time it worked! Tried to name the Daniel Roeth album as it should be -> Now it wants to be Androcell. So this is all something to do with the first renaming of “various artists” i attempt. Anything I try to edit that is not currently in the Album Artist list will magically change to this “first renamed” artist.

What the heck folks please help and thanks much for reading!

Sounds like you’d be better off correcting the match for the artist. On the album page select more (…) and fix match. That will update the metadata, artist name and art work.

Sadly no luck. Fix match came up with no matches. Artwork is correct, so strange. Every track is him as the artist except for two that are his regular duo act. The album cover says nothing but his name on it.

I imagine I can fix this ultimately through a different tagging software. It’s the fact that Plex is behaving this way that seems like a bug?

Sooo…ultimately this has caused me to abandon Plex and use it as a backup option only.
Wish the layout for Music was more customizable in general.
If Plex is ever looking for a test team… :slight_smile:

I just ran into this issue. In the Artist, I first had to Split the Albums, creating two copies of the artist (1 per Album). I then could rename the wrong Artist and everything fell out properly below that.

Facing this issue also. Any idea how to fix it without much effort?

Same issue here…

I have a similar issue, can’t correct the Artist name of 1 album no matter what. Even a unmatch does not let me change it. Did the plex dance even restated plex.
