Album funnies

I have Plex running on a Pi 3, and generally I’m very happy.

However I do have some weird things happening with albums:

  1. I copied several albums on to the drive, but noticed that one of albums has been recognised, but there was a second album for unrecognised artist. This contained one track from the album that had been recognised - the track was missing from there. Checking the details under file properties in Windows 10, the album details etc were missing, I added these. How can I now get Plex to move that one track into the album where it should have been?
  2. Some albums I have added have appeared in the album view many times over. What it has done is created a new album for each track. So each instance of the album contains one track only. Why and how do I fix?

Thanks in advance

Tom

Both issues can arise if you are not following the recommended way of naming your files.

The second issue may also arise when the embedded ‘AlbumArtist’ tag is either empty or not uniform among all tracks of an album.

Please provide a list of the filenames and the folder names where they are in for more detailed advice.

I’ve had the same thing happen - when I forwent my typical obsessiveness about cleaning up files first and wound up trying to scrape items into the Plex library that had non-uniform meta data embedded.

I’m sure there are plenty of options, probably even some better ones these days. I’ve always used mp3tag to get the job done (cleaning tags, making them consistent within an album, renaming files based on tags or vice versa). Depends on the file format, of course, but it handles most. The only time I had album mis-placement weirdness in Plex was when I skipped over the embedded data cleanup and just relied on file naming.
