Some tracks are appearing in the wrong album despite being properly placed in their own album folder and having the correct metadata.
These screenshots show that “Something from nothing” is in the “Medicine at midnight” album when it should be in Sonic Highways. All Sonic Highways and Foo Fighters (album title) tracks are listed incorrectly in Medicine at Midnight.
I had the same issue with another album and somehow managed to fix it but honestly my troubleshooting was so chaotic that I don’t know what fixed it. A lot of randomly clicking analyze, refresh metadata, etc.
I checked the metadata using MusicBrainz Picard and the problem persists. As shown in the screenshot, the metadata in the file properties clearly shows a different album title, and the track files are in their respective album folders so I’m really stumped as to why Plex is getting the album wrong.
Is your server configured to automatically scan its library?
If so, it might have scanned the files while they were still being copied. This can cause them to be mismatched.
Disable automatic and periodic scans,
the try a Plex Dance “light” (omitting step 4) and see if the issue continues.
I tested with another album to see how many of these steps are needed and so far I’ve found that I can fix it by moving the files out, scanning the library, then moving them back and scanning again.
Now I’m just wondering if there is a way to do simplify this in the future so that I don’t have to move files back and forth for each album that I notice isn’t picked up properly.
Either way, I think we can consider this resolved. Thanks again
You can avoid such problems in general, by not downloading, ripping, encoding etc. directly into a folder which is “watched” by Plex.
Instead, do these file preparations in a “staging” folder, which is not seen by Plex, but which is ideally on the same hard drive. Which makes moving the fully prepared files into their final folders much faster.
