I am attempting to add a box set, consisting of 6 individual discs, to a Plex music library. The disks are named according to my naming convention, which so far has been completely compatible with Plex. For example, the folder containing the music files is Named thusly:
Artist ~ Box Set Name (YEAR) {version identifiers) 01 - Disk Name
Artist ~ Box Set Name (YEAR) {version identifiers) 02 - Another Disk Name
etc…
The files are tagged with YATE, a pretty decent tag editor. I have 100’s of albums in this library and only these ones are giving me any problem.
Each single folder can be added to Plex with no problem, but as soon as I add more than 2, one of them disappears. In this case it’s always disk 6. So, ultimately I can get 5 of the six discs added, but the 6th remains invisible to Plex.
The official position is that you should follow Plex’s guidelines for filenames, but I’ve found that, if your embedded tags are in very good shape, the filenames aren’t all that important.
I suspect that either the discnumber tag, or the Album Artist tag, is not populated correctly.
I have used this scheme for quite some time without issues, and the file in question were all tagged en mass to ensure that the fields were identical set-up. The information (disk # and album artist, for instance) appears correct when I add that album alone, or with only one other. It’s when I add more than 2 that things get funky
I should mention that I have another music library with 1000s of albums (same naming scheme) that does not exhibit this kind of problem.
