Does anybody know how you get albums to the correct categories? I have attached an example of my KISS collection, and two of the four solo albums show up in albums, the other two in compilations. How do you make these corrections?
Plex pulls the release type from MusicBrainz (see e.g. the “Album+Compilation” section for KISS). If the albums are listed on MusicBrainz but are categorized incorrectly (or don’t exist at all), you can add/edit them yourself, setting the correct secondary type for the albums.
If you want a quicker fix, or if your albums aren’t “real” releases but something you put together yourself, you can edit the release type tag of the tracks locally. You’ll also want to include both the primary and secondary type, e.g. album;live or album;compilation. For FLAC files (or any other type that uses Vorbis comments for metadata), you’ll add/edit the RELEASETYPE field, and for ID3v2 tags, it’s TXXX:MusicBrainz Album Type, though some programs will have their own internal naming for it - mp3tag lists it as MUSICBRAINZ_ALBUMTYPE.
