So many good things lately but one that’s set me backwards is the new Plex music’s desire to categorize albums as live or compilations. Sometimes it just gets them wrong, and sometimes I just want everything in chronological order.
Is there a way to tag a file or edit the metadata in Plex so that we could change where the app places it?
And if I could really push my luck, if we have to keep the live/ep/compilation categories could we also get one for bootlegs? But overall, I’d really like to just get it all in one big old pile again. Thanks, everyone & anyone!
I think this needs more work. Sometimes MusicBrainz is not actually wrong, but it’s not how you want it. E.g. Beatles albums Help, Hard Days Night etc are grouped as Soundtrack and they were used in the films of those names, but they are not like most soundtrack albums and I certainly don’t want them split off from the rest of the main albums. In order to avoid this perhaps single problem, I have to disable the entire feature when it would be good to have for everything else.
I think we need to be able to manually adjust the grouping for individual albums, so in this case I could have those albums kept within the main group, but still have Live, Compilations etc grouped. This should NOT require editing MusicBrainz as that would then affect EVERY OTHER user and undoubtedly get changed back. This absolutely needs to be local control.
Thanks to you both, beckfield & UKenGB–it’s nice to know on today’s internet that there are people who agree with me. (I remember once getting the suggestion here that I “try not sucking so much,” which is generally great advice but it didn’t fix that problem I was having in Plex.)
I tried an idea since you brought up MusicBrainz. MP3tag has an option in extended tags for Musicbrainz_ALBUMTYPE but I didn’t feel like changing my agent over to local data only, so I kind of wussed out on trying it. I’m a bit of an obsessive tagger, but I didn’t want to give up on all the other stuff that comes along with matching via Plex. Still, it could be useful for down the road if they ever implement that great suggestion.
