Has anyone gotten Plex HW transcoding working reliably within a Proxmox hosted Ubuntu VM with an Alder Lake processor + igpu? HW transcoding will work for 2-3 minutes before a large number of GPU reset messages start appearing in the kernel log. HW transcoding will then stop working and the number of reset messages will ramp up to 100’s a minute. You have to hard power-cycle the machine – both the shutdown and reboot commands will no longer work.
Info on hosting environment:
- Proxmox 7.2 hosted VM with full GPU passthrough of i5-12500 CPU w/ 770 UHD gpu. Machine is 4-cores (host CPU), 4gb of RAM.
- VM is Ubuntu 22.04 running 5.19.0 kernel.
- Plex is running in linuxserver.io docker container on Plex Media Server Version 1.28.1.6041
Kernel “uname -a”:
Linux spex 5.19.0-051900-generic #202207312230 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Jul 31 22:34:11 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I also tried running outside of docker directly on the VM using the July 2022 forum preview package. Same hangs happened. I would run directly on the Proxmox host but I can’t risk the stability.
Thank you in advance for any input. I’ve tried going through as many of the existing threads and am starting this one as it’s VM-focused.
