Alexa is today telling me “sorry, I’m having trouble accessing your plex skill right now”

If you’re running Plex as a docker container you just force an update (I’m on Unraid) and it will re-deploy the latest image (which was just the same one I had before). If you are Windows, that is completely different.

Thanks! I am running Plex on two different Ubuntu servers with NAS storage. I will keep looking for a fix.

FWIW, the Emby Alexa skill still works.

And now, Plex Alexa skill working again for me, for no apparent (to me) reason!

UPDATE 11:22:06 AM, Thursday 11, April 2024 +07

Plex skill on Alexa is working.

Same here, all working now, no idea why though. Would still be good to get some information on this issue.

Was working for me for most of yesterday, back to intermittent operation today. Sometimes it will play, sometimes it won’t. I see the successful plays in my log output if I turn on DEBUG logging in the PMS settings. Otherwise I don’t even see a request from the AWS servers.

I also see these in the log:
Apr 11, 2024 08:21:10.523 [15256] DEBUG - Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected after 131072 bytes: 10054 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

and

ERROR - [Req#755] Unable to find client profile for device; platform=Alexa, platformVersion=, device=Alexa, model=

Same here. It had been working and then stopped again. Plex must be doing something on their end to cause this again.

My logs dont show errors regarding Alexa, but this line is concerning; (IP Address and hex key obscured by me)
[HCl#908] HTTP requesting GET https://???-???-232-201..plex.direct:32400/identity

The hyphens concern me since other IP addresses in the logs look normal.

Yep - broke again today after starting to work again yesterday after previously being broken…some back end stuff has to be going on.

Based on timing, this issue is definitely also affecting casting to Sonos. The IP with dashes looks like a fat-fingered code deployment that needs to be rolled back and reviewed a bit more carefully before deployment next time.

Same experience again for me.
It went back to normal, working just fine, then as of today, Alexa will say she is playing what I requested, but just silence follows. Plex dashboard also confirms nothing is playing.

Well, that was weird. It works for me now. I was trying to have Alexa launch a playlist on my server, and it couldn’t find my server, so errored out.

It did find my friends server, but wouldn’t let me change back to my own server and was stuck.

I went and removed myself from my friends server, and now the skill/playlist link works again.

I wonder what will happen if I reconnect to my friends server…

And back working again today, I made no changes. Which is good…let’s see if it holds

It’s been hit or miss today.

I spent over three hours over Friday and Saturday reporting this problem to Amazon support. They got me to uninstall and reinstall everything without fixing anything.( I refused to restart my router and Plex from my PC )

However the next day it was all working again so I guess I kick started the investigation.
