Alexa not seeing Player

Alexa is not seeing any web player clients (in browser)…and similarly, I cannot see any other players on my iPhone plex app.

When I hit my https://plex_media_server:3200/clients - I just get a 401 Unauthorized.

What to do?

I bought my Echo Dot yesterday, and so far so good. I can get Alexa to list and play items on my Roku3 and the Plex Web App in Firefox and even list items on my Trakt account.

However, I cannot get Alexa to find the Plex for Android app which is running, on the same network, and listed as an ‘officially supported’ player.

Has anyone else found a solution please?

You need to be logged into the android plex app with the plex admin login before doing the player search.

My Plex skill on Alexa successfully connects to plex account. Further it gets authorized easily as well, once sign in process is done, i asked alexa to open plex, she says unable to find server please check, while my server is up and running with remote access green as well. Any workaround?

Is plex pass compulsory for alexa skill to work?

Alexa will NOT “open/start” the plex app for you without a third party piece of hardware (harmony Hub with an activity for plex configured) at this time.

Make sure you are running the latest version of App.

Also worked on Fire TV THANKS

@.dannyv45, @paullittlefield:

Had similar issues to this thread with Alexa and my Raspberry Pi3B+ running Kodi with the Kodi Plex plugin (totally another story but yup, currently only way to fling Plex media via WiFi to a Pi3B+).

Following reboot of the Pi, Alexa still couldn’t see it as a Plex target. Following reboot of my Ubuntu Plex server however…then a subsequent reboot of the Pi: voila: Alexa now lists my PlexKodiConnect as a Plex target and correctly switches playback over to it.

…and the sound coming out of that little guy (with a HiFiBerry Amp2 mounted on it) and the attached pair of Elac book-shelf speakers is just amazing.

I did not have to deregister the Pi/Kodi/Plex device from Plex and reregister it. Just the server first reboot then the Pi thereafter was required.

Last comment in this run-on one: Way prior to this, I also had to do a bunch for port-forwards on my router to also make sure the whole kit was ready to work.

Update: Following a shutdow of the Pi3b+ the Plex initiated output from the Pi node no longer works. Alexander says that output is being sent to PlexKodiConnect however the sound continues to only exit from the Echo Dot itself. Quite frustrating.

I’m also using a fire tv stick and alexa. If I open my fire tv stick and browse I can play any of the movies from my local server, but if I try using voice control it always reports that it can’t find a compatible player. I only have one account setup and it is the same name as my amazon account so I don’t understand this. What can I do to trouble shoot this and get it working. I’m totally blind and the main reason for installing the plex server and the alexa skill was so I could watch my stored movies and tv shows when the wife wasn’t there to see the screen

This finally fixed my issue with my Android based Sony Bravia not being seen as a player. That said I had tried on and off for months. I did update the server earlier today to Version 1.15.6.1079

This is the first time in months that the Alexa skill has worked for me at all, I’d about given up on it. Hopefully it will continue to work as intended.

Thanks to the Plex team for whatever updates have been implemented to the Alexa skill that have made it functional again.

Well … it didn’t last long … now it’s back to the unwelcome message of doom… “Uh oh something went wrong. I’ve alerted the Plex Team so they can take a look.”

Skill fails to see server or players again. Damn… :frowning:

Is this still the Case its August 10th 2019 and I have this issue. Any one have a fix?

I’d really like to see the Plex skill working again. I no longer get the “Uh oh something went wrong…” message. It sees my servers and can set them but… It doesn’t recognize or see most players.

When I attempt to run the “Tell Plex set player.” I get the following response.

“I could not find any Plex companion players on your network. Please make sure your player is running and connected to the Internet. I have out of the car to the Alexa app if you need help.”

Players that it doesn’t see:

  • Vizio M501d-AR with Plex for Vizio 3.13.13
  • Raspberry Pi 3 OSMC Kodi Plex add-on 0.1.6
  • Samsung TV with Plex

Players that are sometimes seen (less ofter than not):

  • Sony Bravia (Android 8) Plex (from google play store)

Players it does see:

  • iPhone iOS Plex app

Alex lists all the Plex players, but the only player it will connect with is the one on the Alexa itself.

Hi,

When I want to play something on my Plex media player @ Nvidia Shield , the skill wants me to select a media player. But then it can not find any “companion” media players.
I am logged in to the primary Plex user both on my server and on my player.
I use the same user on Alexa skill link.
So what is the problem ?

really ? still no response ?
