I have no clue if this has been reported or not… trying to figure out these forums is a pain. You cannot use the Plex skill and the Roku skill at the same time. ONE has to be disabled, and then you have to re-link one or the other. There’s a conflict. When you try to get Alexa to go to your plex server, via the Plex skill… the Roku skill takes over and opens the Plex channel on your Roku. It won’t let you use the Plex skill until you disable the Roku skill. Will this be addressed along with the other countless bugs with the Alexa skill?
Could you clarify how you’re asking Alexa to do this, i.e. what are you saying to Alexa? As long as you’re using “ask Plex…”, or “tell Plex…” when using the skill there should be no way it could conflict.
With JUST the Plex Skill enabled… say “Alexa… open Plex”. She will find your Plex server and greet you with "Welcome back to Plex… what would you like to do? You can… " blah blah blah…
But if you have the Roku Skill enabled… it will tell you that it “cannot do that”. Or, randomly, it will tell you “Opening Plex in Roku”. You also cannot change the Plex player, from one source to another. Try it, yourself… it’s easy to duplicate the problem.
Ok, got it all setup on my Roku and I see what’s happening. At least in my testing, because of how Roku’s skill works, the “open Plex” is the only command that it intercepts, but only when you’re asking an Alexa device that you’ve linked with the Roku device via their skill setup in the Alexa app. For instance “Alexa, open Plex” will open the Plex app on the linked Roku, but then “Alexa, ask Plex to play library radio” will play on the Alexa device as expected.
This should actually work out well for commanding the whole experience by voice. With our recent updates to the Plex skill each device remembers its preferred player, and with the Roku skill each device can be linked to control a Roku device. So with it all set up you should be able to “Alexa, open Plex”, followed by “Alexa, ask Plex to play {some tv or movie name}”. Needing to have the Plex app in the foreground has always been a rough spot when using our skill, but this should actually make it work pretty smooth, at least with Rokus.
