I just got a Show and really need this. It’s in the kitchen and would be fantastic for keeping kids entertained.

We use Hulu Live TV for this. I would like to see Channels support it.

Plex on the Show would be a great skill for the Echo Show

This is a great idea , it will upsell amazon devices too they should also help with dev on this…

Got a show 5 and since then I have started plex for local stuff from music to video playback. Would love to see an photo album support for echo the same way playlist do work for echo dot

play the playlist … and if it is a photo album and a alexa screen device then start playing this list … maybe with a mp3 file playing in the background cause every screen supports audio and to add a track to a photo album should be done easily.

I’ve been a Plex Pass member for… wow, too many years to remember! I now have 2 Echo Show units, one in my kitchen for media, news, etc. and another in my pole barn/machine shop for the same. I find that my primary use for the show is to have videos (tv series or movies - not a youtube fan) playing any time I’m in that area. It would be awesome to be able to play my Plex videos! I have to be honest, I purchased the Echo devices assuming that I could.

/facepalm for not researching first.

If this is ever considered, I would be happy to beta test, provide the Plex team with info, whatever they need if it would help out!

Whether it becomes a function or not, Plex is STILL the best media system out there. You guys rock, plain and simple!

While it’s not as good as having a specific skill for it with voice control and all, you can tell your Echo “Alexa, open firefox” then navigate to your local plex IP or to app.plex.tv and login. From there you can watch all your plex content on the Echo Show.

It “works” but it’s a horrible user experience. I have to click things a dozen times to get it to work, live tv doesn’t work, it’s next to unusable. I’d be happy if we could get a stable working version on the show using Firefox or silk.

I also need plex working on the show! it’s the perfect device to have on my table to watch star trek while I’m working!

The firefox solution would be a good workaround if it allowed the cast functionality!! Unfortunately, other plex apps cant see the plex running on the echo show firefox!!:frowning:

Just update the plex skill to allow video already!

It’s already a bummer that Plex for the oculus go SUCKS BALLS and you guys do nothing about it. (wrong aspect ratio, can’t curve the screen, the trigger doesn’t work as every other single app in the go, etc, etc)

At least fix the echo skill to work with video!!

It’s not that difficult people!!! The guy who wrote the youtube skill for Alexa already did it and I can watch youtube videos on my echo show!! I’m doing right now! And its open source, so the plex developers can just look how he did… common!

I agree… please let us watch plex video on the echo show… The echo show is made for this sort of experience!

just one downside - firefox on echo show has 5(?) min timeout, so you have to touch screen every 5 min or it just disappears due to screensaver ;(

Hi,

Using the Echo Show (Gen 1), I have no such 5-minute timeout running against the latest Plex (PlexMediaServer-1.18.1.1973-0f4abfbcc-x86). I have tested this only with remote media (local plex server through the Plex site, not directly from the Plex server itself).

Perhaps this was an issue that has been resolved or it exists for local media. In any case, those that haven’t tried it should use this method in a pinch.

With all that said, I think this is an adequate work around for occasional or certain types of use. However, I still vote for the video skill.

Cheers

Alright, looks like the(Amazon) fixed that bug with screen timeout, or Plex is doing it differently from other apps ( my echo was always faling to sleep during soundcloud play from firefox), but seems it has couple other bugs:

  • frequently freezes while turning on/off fullscreen mode
  • playback also stucks, but here it could be not alexa, but transcoding issue ( i am sending it from raspberry pi 4, which seems has no support of GPU transcoing in current pms version)

Just ordered a Show 8 and was hoping to see Plex support. Sad to hear the poor experiences with the Firefox browser method. Especially that live TV doesn’t work with it. Hopefully Plex will grace us with something better soon.

Please add!

I’ve been a Premium subscriber since the days when it was $70 lifetime and I would gladly pay an additional amount for Echo Show support…
