All channels work but one: "Unable to tune channel (No parts)"

To clear this error, I had to disconnect the HDHomeRun. Then run the HDHomeRun software on my computer. (I just tuned a few random channels before closing.) Finally re-connect the HDHomeRun. Quite a pain. But less of a pain than going up to the attic to toggle the power.

I’m having this issue with 1.9.6 and an HDHomeRun Connect for a single channel. Just started out of the blue.

I encountered this problem also - running Plex Version 1.9.7.4460 , Media server running on a Win10 PC, using HD Homerun Quatro. I went thru all the settings and another post mentioned the Plex setting Web/Settings/Quality and to make sure that was turned to ā€œBetaā€ - mine was off so I updated it and that fixed my problem - so far.

I am having the same issue as everyone above describes. How do we get a ticket submitted so they can fix it? Or do they monitor their own forums looking for issues people talk about?

Please make sure you are running the latest Beta version and have dubug logging turned on.

Duplicate the problem and then grab the log zip file and upload it here along with the channel number you were trying to watch.

Another discussion on this issue:
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/294892/plex-dvr-trying-to-watch-live-tv-but-get-error-unable-to-tune-channel-no-parts/p2

This is happening to me as well, and I get the message ā€œunable to tune channel (timed out)ā€ when trying to tune one particular channel (10.1) while all others are fine. I’m on a Hauppage QuadHD PCIe tuner. Running latest Plex beta 1.10.0.4523 on Windows 10 latest build on a dedicated server. I’ve attached logs that were generated just after this happens.

I’ve tried the following things to resolve it to no avail:

  • Server reboot
  • PMS repair install and reboot
  • Removed tuners and re-added them

Suggestion: If multiple devices are available and one tuner/device is unable to tune the channel, cycle through other available devices. I have two separate devices (hdhomerun + hauppauge) yet it seems to give up after one failure.

I’ve moved from a Windows PMS server to Ubuntu. Completely reset everything, new install from scratch. I just had this happen again…

See attached log
Recording should have started at 22:00, and you can see a failed manual tune attempt near the end. Same error again, ā€œUnable to tune partsā€, resolved with a PMS service restart.

Ended up missing this entire recording because it’s unnecessarily obnoxious to force a single recording of a series and even with partial allowed the series recording won’t pick up what’s left of the show following service restart.

Throwing this out there… I have an nvidia shield on the network, which has had issues with live channels + hdhomerun devices for a month or so now. I just disabled live channels on a hunch that maybe it’s messing things up even though i’m not using it. Time will tell.

Lot of steps for something we are paying for. Plex should be aware of this issue and fix it ASAP instead of writing cute blog posts.

It’s only a lot of steps if you plan to do it three times.

All I asked is to duplicate the problem and then upload the log zip file that is produced when you click a button. Don’t think it gets to much easier than that. LOL

I’m having the same issue. HDHomerun works on the native app, but not on Plex. It has worked until just the last couple of days. i re-installed and it worked for a few hours and then stopped on all channels again. My log file is attached.

I’m attaching my logs as well. I can tune the HDHR stream using VLC without issues all day long but Plex will periodically be unable to tune the same one despite having an open tuner.

One thing I noticed after the last time it happened is the HDHR shows a client connected despite me having shutdown all streams. It seems like Plex still had one open and that may have interfered with it trying to tune into another channel afterward?

At this point every connection to my local PMS fails and I’m forced to restart it before I can do anything with it again, including retrieving server logs. The issue pops up on both Roku and Chrome for me. Things work fine after the restart but it’s only a matter of time before it happens again.

Plex 1.10.1.4602 on Qnap

Any progress on this? I canceled my TV services 2 weeks ago and went all in on Plex because it was working so well with my CableCARD which I can’t say now that I’m using an OTA antenna.

I’m having to restart PMS on a daily basis because it locks up after a half dozen or so channel tunes. Several times that hasn’t done it and a hung process means having to reboot my Qnap to kill it off completely. The tuner is always up and working when connecting via other apps so it’s definitely isolated to PMS.

I updated to beta version 1.11.1.4730 a few days ago and it’s still definitely an issue. There are other users reporting the same problem across various device types in other threads, too.

What can we do to help move this along?

Maybe it’s too soon to tell but I updated to beta version 1.11.1.4760 and haven’t had the issue yet after several days. I was previously having to restart PMS at least once a day or every 4-5 channel tunes. I haven’t had to do it since updating to this new version over the weekend.

I’m hopefully optimistic but we’ll see.

At this point I’m going to call my issue resolved. I haven’t had the problem occur in nearly 2 weeks since beta version 1.11.1.4760 (and later since I’ve updated a few times since then).

Although it didn’t really get acknowledged here as an issue by Plex, thanks to whichever phantom dev spent some time working on this for us. It’s working well again on my Qnap and I hope others are seeing positive results, too.

Same problem. Server Version 1.11.3.4803 running on Windows 7. HDHomeRun Extend tuner. Fire Stick client. A single channel will stop working, unable to tune. Have to restart the PMS to recover use of the channel. Never happens with the HDHomerun software. Just started using Plex today. It locked up on a channel twice today. Rebooted the Windows 7 machine the first time, solving the problem. Just restarted the PMS to fix the problem second time. It appears the following are the relevant lines from the server log file.

On the most recent version of PlexPass server on Ubuntu server 18.04. Only one channel gives the ā€œno partsā€ error. VLC works fine. By this point, someone at Plex must have an idea what is causing the issue, right? I just want to be pointed in the right direction.

My next step is to set up Emby to see if it has the same errors. If it works fine, then I’m going to have to stick with it and cancel my plexpass subscription.

I’m getting the error ā€œUnable to tune channelā€ but I don’t see the (No Parts) portion of it. Here’s my log attached. It’s channel 29. Is there still no resolution to this?
